I need to finish off another project before I can start on this one. The other project is a 4' x 4' gaming table and I hope to get it done by the end of the weekend, so Bag End will have to wait until after that.

I've not heard from Brian for a few days, so he's probably been busy finishing his version off already.

A model of the interior of Bag End has been on my list for a while… although I’m not nearly as ambitious as Dagorlad, who seems to have plans for building the whole lot. I do like the opening shot of the “Concerning Hobbits”- scene in the first movie, when the camera pans from the Middle-earth map to Bilbo’s study (extended edition). The quiet atmosphere, the rustic architecture… I would like to build that particular piece of scenery (no, I’m not working on it at this moment).

The whole idea of a “Shire Shootout” seems a brave one to me. You must be fairly confident about your building skills if you dare to take up a challenge like this. Personally, I shy away from anything that savours of competition… fear of failure, I guess. Yep, no OR Awards for me…

I’m looking forward to the results of both competitors. In this home-made scenery trade, there are only winners (aah… don’t become emotional, you old twerp! Keep it light-hearted…).

I’m off to Moria again. West-gate, the Three Kings…

Not sure how much research you guys are going to do but this is something I found whilst looking for different approaches to hobbit holes. I think it may just be someones interpretation, but then again I didn't read the text on the other page. Hope its of use :P

I think that is probably a farely accurate sketch lorderkenbrand. IIRC Tolkien described bilbos hobbit hole as a long hall with lots of rooms on the sides.

You're kidding right?
The two of you guys could blow that out of the water...that looks quite easy in the doll house scale that is in. It's nice, but not all that impressive when it really comes down to it.

Yeah, Take note of the scale. It's a Doll House, and I posted it up to give you inspiration, not to frighten the hell out of you

Besides, most of it was bought in a shop(says so, only the big things were made), so let the scratch-building begin! :P

Action figure scale LotR.... imagine the size of the trebuchet reproduced at 1:6 scale... now there's an idea.....

Meantime, in Toon and Oz, the sounds of scratching.... or was it screeching?

In Geordie-land there is stony silence - the Bane has gone on holidays for two weeks!

But meanwhile here in Oz, I finally managed to get some time to myself today and here's my first photo:

Image

The detail on the front door panel is just a printed copy of a plan I drew up for Exploring Middle-earth. There is Bilbo, surveying the construction of his new abode, while in the background are four meddling kids (and their pesky dog) who are trying to catch some mysterious black riders who keep appearing around the place.

Its started! :D

The detail on the printout looks fab! I love the way the (polystyrene)hill will break up the different areas of the hole, this is a brilliant beginning 'Wonderful Wizard (of Oz)'
