Welcome to the March Painting challenge. This month you have chosen ... A maximum of 4 models can be entered in the challenge and can be mixed and matched from the following factions. Khand / Rhun / Umbar / Harad / Mordor. Any problems send me a PM. 1. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature/s you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible. 2. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of March 31st 2015. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. A maximum of 4 photos per model of your completed entries please, this allows you to show your miniatures off from front, back and each side which is more than enough. If you would like to compile more than four pictures into one file it is ok to do that Pictures of completed models must be submit using a third party hosting site such as photobucket or imageshack. Pictures submit by attachment will not be eligible for the vote. Any problems PM me. 3. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to reduce their backlog and improve their painting skills. 4. With the introduction of The League Winners from the previous month are now eligible to enter and win consecutive challenges without penalty. Good luck to all! |

Really, Mordor too? So if it was eligible last month then it's eligible this month too? Hope so, as it's the only way I might be able to enter (pretty unlikely that I will though as I've got a lot of other stuff I want to deal to). |

Me too! I'll be painting The Betrayer, and maybe a few more of the named Nazgûl if I have the time. So busy at the moment, wasn't able to join last month's challenge. Elladan |

I've included Mordor as quite a few people have said they will struggle to find something which fit the original 4 places i specified. |

I'm gonna try to do this one finally. I've wanted to so many times. I think considering I need toppling two Bolt Action armies and one Lotr I'll be in the zone and keep going. Either that or its going to such my soul and crush morale completely. Well see. |

Watchers of Karna for my entry. And I tried many techniques on this one to push some of my personal limits. That is what this is for right? Second one; Third one Fourth Entry; Abrakhan Guard proof paint job |

One of the things I love most about the LotR movies is the grittiness and realism of them, so I usually go for that over cleanness and brightness. The fact it's much easier to paint grimy than clean helps too! |

Actually that is how I paint all my models. I think it's better considering its strategy battle game not display basing game. |

LordoftheBrownRing wrote: You know what Sittings....screw you. Now I don't even wanna enter. Your guy looks like a Watcher standing post. Thanks. lol. You know I have never won a contest on here, there are many painters here that jaw drop me and stun me with their WIP threads. Any number of people can post a fantastic piece at any moment. For this attempt I first researched snake skins, I didn't even know if I could do it right as I have tried stippling before with mixed results. I originally went with Green and black snake skin and thought it was a bit too bright on my test. I practiced on paper with several different colors to see what worked. Finally came up with this and how I would approach it. It is a pain in the butt, and rightfully so to do. For NMM, I watched a 15 minute video on it taking notes as it played and watched it again before starting. Even so, blending was a bit tricky as it has been a while since I blended instead of layering. Blending Turquoise, purple and grey while working toward white, it doesn't come together until very late in the process, it is tricky. So.. Anyone can watch some video's, read some articles, do some research, or be inspired outside the box to paint something and push their own limitations of painting. Anyone. As for dirty, Snakes slither in the dry sand all day long and don't look any dirtier than when they started. Mud sticks, dust does a bit but not as much. So if this guy was out on a patrol for a few days, he still may not be caked in dirt. If he is back at the palace guarding the ladies then he his white cloth would be more white instead of khaki. lol. His trousers are probably full of khaki though. Please, be inspired to push yourself, not inspired to quit. Go to Figure Painter Magazine, or check out Cool Mini or Not and see how high those limits can go on a model. As with working out (which I do 5 days a week) you look at working your weakest muscle with the attitude to make it stronger and better, to remove those weaknesses instead of dreading the workout because of it's weakness. |
