Info & Rules: 1. A race and/or region are decided upon before each monthly Sculpting & Converting challenge, this two months' being... In this challenge you have several options to take part: - Sculpt from scratch (starting with or without armature/metal wire/...) - Convert an existing Goblin-miniature (to a new or another character or race/region, to change it's situation, rank, pose, wargear, ...) - Convert a completely different miniature into a Goblin 2. To enter the Sculpting & Converting Challenge, the miniature you are converting must not be converted nor painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-converted'. Re-converting an already converted miniature is NOT allowed!! When sculpting from scratch, you must picture proof this with your blank armature/metal wire/... aswell as a work-in-progress-picture as valid proof. All "proof-pictures" MUST either have the announcement-screen of the running challenge in it's background, or contain a small note with the announced theme and date written on. 3. You may join the Sculpting & Converting Challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of your completed work by midnight GMT of January 31th 2013 . WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. You are allowed to use any sort of sculpting epoxy, aswell as scratchbuild materials (such as metal wire, plasticard, rivets, chains, ...). You are allowed to use parts from other miniatures (such as weapons, heads, banners, arms, horses, ...). Your final work must stay UNPAINTED and contain 4 pictures; showing FRONT, BACK, LEFT and RIGHT side. 4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed sculpts/conversions. Votes should be cast not simply on sculpting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of techniques, artist improvement, originality etc. There is no prize available for the winners of this challenge, the challenge is solely for community participation and as an incentive for people to improve their sculpting skills and to encourage creativity onto their shelves. 5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months Sculpting & Converting Challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months. Good luck to all! |

The few minutes I have left to work on hobby stuff are for painting some non-GW stuff and even that will only be a bit I have to concentrate on other things the next 12 months or so (building a house), so I'm afraid I won't be doing much hobby this year. I'm glad it turned out to be goblins though, I've been looking forward to sculpts and conversions for these guys. Most of us have probably loads and more loads of them so I expect many will take part! |

Yay! 2 months! Now I can actually participate and hopefully finish something. Also love the theme: so many possibilities! Thinking about giving the Great Goblin a try! |

I started this goblin just before the poll for the challenge ended so I've no armature proof but hope to sculpt another that will have a proper proof pic. I'm using GW goblins for reference, like size and what should be sculpted first and suspect this will end up as a hero of some sort or another. Apologies for the lack of armature pictures and what it looked like but I basically measured some wire up against a Moria goblin drummer by eye and shaped it accordingly. Made a press mold of a Moria goblin drummers head (which got very distorted) and attached it to get a feel for the piece. Most of the GS here is just to give the next lot something to hold onto. Started firstly by adding some feet, I tried sculpting them like goblin warriors armoured feet, bulked his legs out and added some under clothes to them, finally adding more bulk to his body. Going to attempt some sort of shin armour for his legs next. Its not a proper proof and I don't mean to waver the rules or encourage it but just thought I should proof the piece anyway. |

I would wager that TBB is really building a brewery and not a house |

Started working on the Great Goblin yesterday. So far, it's only a big bulb of Green Stuff, but I'll take a proof picture this weekend (since I won't have time to continue working on him before then). Cool to see there's already another entry! |

Looks very smooth; special technique for doing that? cheers, I'm using a GW sculpting tool, mostly the non knife side. Basically pushed and shaped the GS so that all the seams would end up on his back, or underneath so I can cover them up later with more clothes or armour, also tried not to manipulate the GS too much, the less manipulation the better kind of thing. looking at sculpting wips of all sorts on the forum and blogs has helped a lot too, especially with the armature and breaking the sculpting down into sections. |

ukfreddybear wrote: Lookin very good so far BW! sound man, thanks. are you going to try one yourself ? Did a bit more... For the shin guards; a cone shape piece of GS was stuck on the goblins shin with the larger end just below his knee and the smaller end where the leg meets the foot. the GS was then pushed from the center of the shin towards the sides of his legs. The top of the guard was pinched slightly to make it rise up. Sleeves Shoulders and Chest Stomach |

BizzareWarstar wrote: ukfreddybear wrote: Lookin very good so far BW! sound man, thanks. are you going to try one yourself The irony is that I am sculpting a goblin at the moment, but it is from World of Warcraft so a lot more Warhammery than the LotR ones so not very relevant to this compy. Plus I have a queue of commissions to do after so again will likely have to dip out on this one too unfortunately. Your moria goblin is coming on superbly. I'm very impressed! |
