The poll winner for new challenge was TERRAIN. The Large scale challenge will have a duration of 3 months from start to finish and the small 2 month duration. The challenge piece must be wargaming terrain meaning there must be provision for miniatures to be able to be used on it. I think it will be too late to get this all sorted for September start so lets aim for October for the first challenge. I will put up a new poll to determine the size and a subject of the first challenge piece. You have 2 votes please vote on a size piece you would like to enter in the challenge and also a subject. The idea of a component that must be used in the challenge suggested by Dagorlad was also a good one but we can leave that to be decided at a later date once we have decided on a size and subject. |

I believe that the first entry should be a small piece. Baby steps to begin with, ease into it gradually and all that. |

Ardboe wrote: Ive got an ruins of osgiliath set in the post, if i just painted that up would it be eligible? Yes it would be fine - in fact it would be a pretty safe bet as would fit into both Free peoples and forces of the Dark Lord. DON'T FORGET TO VOTE ON A SIZE TERRAIN PIECE TOO GUYS! |

I was so eager to remember to vote on the size that I forgot to vote on the subject. -- Pasi |

I chose the small project and the Free Peoples. If I hurry in October, I should have enough time to enter this challenge. I leave for a two year "vacation" of sorts in November. I'm going to Russia! And sadly the hobby must stay home. |

I went with "The Free peoples (for exapmple a Shire/Rivendell/Iron hills/Rohan inspired piece)". I have an idea for a simple little piece that will look great on a Rohan gaming board! |

I voted for Servants of the Dark Lord. Not sure if I want to build anything though Large pieces should be anything UP FROM 9 x 9 inches, I can imagine some people would want to build a complete board. |

Seriously.....I just finished a whole bunch of terrain for our group to use at our FLGS. It has a lot of 40K terrain and a lot of nature trees/rocks but not a lot of LoTR style terrain. i.e. fantasy terrain without all the skulls. Lets see...it was 3 buildings and I just finished a rough terrain piece. Not award winning stuff, tough and simple, total time for each piece was probably one hour. Ah well, maybe next time.....not that I have a lot of time..... |

Good question Yes, I think it matters because of the size of the movement trays. For WOTR a forest should be on a small mat to mark the boundary of the difficult terrain. The trees would be placed on top and could be moved to make room for the large bases. I would not allow a tree base to be moved in SBG if I was umpiring. I know some people use the stylized forest rules for SBG too. |

I had SBG i mind when I wrote that the terrain piece should be for wargaming with provision for miniatures to be used on it. However if you can make you terrain piece work for Wotr then thats fine. |

I was hoping it would be for SBG ......since it looks like 'Small Terrain Piece Inspired By The Free Peoples' is going to win, are there any specific 'guidelines' (other than those previously stated) that should be used?? For example (and this is a pathetic attempt at an example)---- perhaps a small piece with a fountain/well in the center....as long as "there must be provision for miniatures to be able to be used on it" would it work?? Sorry if the way I phrased it is confusing.... I'm just still considering what would work and what wouldn't.... |

Yes a small piece with a fountain / well in the center would be fine for the challenge - the rules are not going to be super strict, you know what type of terrain you want to use in your games so the challange realistically is only to motivate you to produce a pleasing piece of terrain suited to your own tastes and games and above all else have fun doing it I look forward to seeing what you all come up with. I may even have a go myself (which will be interesting as I've never made a single piece of terrain in my life ) |
