Hello everyone! Welcome to the thread for the December Painting Challenge! Rules 1. A miniature is decided upon before each monthly painting challenge. This month is the second 'Special' Painting Challenge where instead of a single miniature being chosen, a theme is chosen. This month will be a winter themed challenge to coincide with the festive season. Your entries next month can be anything as long as it has a clear winter theme (this can be anything as little as having some snow on the base of your miniature or something more extreme). Also if you want to you can add a festive theme to your entry (as an example you can give a goblin a santa hat and a candy cane). If you are unsure as to whether something will be elligible for entry, just post asking or PM me and I will let you know whether or not you may use it. 2. To enter the painting challenge, the miniature you are painting must not be painted before starting and picture proof must be shown of the miniature 'pre-painted' (unprimed, undercoated or if you are repainting and old miniature - in its' original paint scheme) otherwise your entry will not be eligible. 3. You may join the painting challenge in progress at any time, but must submit photographs of the completed miniature by midnight GMT of January 2nd, 2012. WIP images are welcomed and encouraged. 4. Miniatures that are completed in time will be eligible to win the challenge. The challenge winner will be decided by the vote of the OR community. The community will choose one winner and one runner-up from the completed miniatures. Votes should be cast not simply on painting skill, but on merit, including creativity, application of painting techniques, artist improvement, etc. In previous painting challenges, the winner and runner-up recieved prizes in the form of gold coins, however with the websites current situation, gold coins are not available to give as prizes, so no prize is available at the moment. 5. Winners from the previous month are able to participate in the next months painting challenge, but they are not eligible to win in consecutive months. 6. Please only post a maximum of 4 images for your completed entry. If you post more than 4 images I will only use the first 4 images and the remaining images will be disregarded. Good luck to all! |

Interesting what you did with the axe. Can I ask what it's purpose is? How does he fight with it? (Serious question, I'm no making fun of your design. ) Or is it an "S" for Santa? Rueben |

Some progress pics. I have the under belly 100% done unless there's something I don't like. So 30% complete in all. I want to do more than just all around white with shades of gray. I want to give it some color and have the colors transition between each other while having white be the primary color. Hopefully the colors don't clash so much that it strikes out. I want a Frost Dragon not an Over the Rainbow Dragon! Pic is too bright with the flash or too dark without it. What to do? |

Thanks guys! Amarthadan wrote: Interesting what you did with the axe. Can I ask what it's purpose is? How does he fight with it? I'm going to sit this month out. I have a really fun, amusing (at least to me) idea but I really want to get progressing on my Haradrim force and don't have enough time to split between "real" painting and "fun only" painting. My other challenge participations so far have at least been for models that I'm ready to actively play which helps. I almost jumped in with some Rangers of the North but I can't take on a new force all together right now. Really wish I could join you guys on this though. It's a great theme and I love what I'm seeing so far. I can't wait to see it all progress! |

You should split the axe in half so he has two of them. Cause there is NO way that anybody could use that axe without killing themselves. |

If Suladan can fight with a small ship's rigging strapped to his back, then a Dwarf King can fight with a double-reversed axe. |

Post subject: | Re: December Painting Challenge: Winter |
True, but if that's strapped tight enough, it could work. Double reverse axe? I doubt it. I will say it looks cool, though. |

Were the handle a little bit longer and a grand total of 4 axe heads rather than just two, I could see it working akin to a dervish which works really well if you know how to wield one. |
