It was hard to choose from Buckland Brewer, Edge, and BizarreWarstar...I ultimately went with Buckland Brewer's Gulahvar.

Red Corsairs, I presume you mean voting will close on the 12th October, not the 12th August :)

I also found voting for this challenge particularly difficult. I gave everyone who did something original a +1, anyone who's improved a +1, anyone whosedone a spectacular paint job a +1, and many other thing which I do not feel the need to go on about and after much deliberation (it would be easier if you could see all the pictures at the same time) to The BucklandBrewer's excellent rendition of the Terror of Arnor :D

Sadly, I can only make one vote. So,I decided to vote for BizzareWarstar’s Huron vs. the Troll.
The Huron was painted fantastically and the expression on the troll's face is captured quite well. Pure hatred and horror.
My very-close-to-first second place would be Edge's Cave drake. The colors were very well executed and the highlights are smooth.
My third place would be BotWT's Gulavhar. The membranes of the wings are well done and the eyes are very..."eye-catching."
Great painting for everyone else, though. Great techniques and use of colors. The monster population just increased. :D

Again another very tough decision this month, but I did make my mind up quickly this time. Between all the awesomely painted Drakes, Dragons, sculpted Ents,Trolls, the creepy-ass Spider, Witch-king's Fellbeast and Bart's wild looking Gulahvar, I finally had to go with Wah Wing's Isengard Troll! 8)

I didn't dislike even one of the entries and thought everyone did very well this month...you sure don't make it easy to vote guys! :)

Excellent job everyone. A lot of good ones. I gave my vote to Edge and Ares B is my runner up. And General Elessar you've really stepped it up this time around, as well as Ares B. Good job guys.

Wish my stupid monitor didn't break down on me so I could have finished and entered my Balrog, d'oh well.

Good work everyone. These monthly challenges are really testing people and bringing their skills up a notch or two - fantastic. My favourite picture is BizarreWarstar's - basically, I wish I could paint that well. But I haven't voted yet because it's hard to choose which to go with - my criteria for judging this comptetion is not based on skill, but on the amount the painter has improved or the new techniques they have attempted.

I have a vote! Wow, thanks a lot to whoever voted for me. That was my goal for this competition; I thought if I could get just one vote among such skilled painters it would be an achievement. :)

When I saw the huorn vs. Isengard troll, even before the base coat I knew this would be epic. That's where my vote went :) well done everyone, lots of good effort :yay:

Oh wow. This is going to take some time to decide who to vote for. I will ponder on this for a while. Good job everyone, it's great to see these competitions really heating up these last couple of times. It's great to see people striving for better and better painted figures... :)

I'm stuck for choice between nine different entries.
@Beowulf - although the quality of the picture lets your entry down a little the pose of the spider itself scares the living daylights out of me, really excellent work.
@Wah Wing - Your troll is amazingly life like - really great painting!!!
@TheBucklandBrewer- This version of Gulhavar speaks for itself... Fantastic!
@Islestaggerholm - Great contrast of colour between the dragons scales and body - eyes are fantastic and well thought out base.
@General Elessar - The flames on the witch kings sword are brilliant as is the fellbeast itself, wings etc look really well painted.
@Edge67 - Really clever use of shading particularly on the underside of the drake, really striking model all round well done.
@BOTWT - Excellent as ever!!!
AresB - Never seen this model before but is really well painted in a great choice of colour, you can tell a lot of thought and work has gone into this piece.
and finally
@BizzareWarstar - Probably the best piece of painting and shading I have EVER seen made better by the detailed explanation of how it was achieved in the painting thread. My first reaction to looking at all the entries together was to vote for this entry as it is unlike anything I have ever seen or imagined before.......However I am not going to vote straight away, I would like to come back over the next couple of days and check out the entries further.

Really difficult decision - I'm kind of jealous I didn't enter this month now just to have one of my miniatures displayed alongside a range of fantastic entries.
Good luck to all!

I had to go for Edge67’s Drake. I have seen many pics of GW’s Drake by others but this one really went beyond the standard. The colors selected and the skill of applying and blending the colors and shading reminds me of the way modern model makers try to portray dinosaurs “as they may have been”. It feels more like a study in how a cave drake may have looked than a portrayal of a cave drake from a fantasy setting to me. Wah Wing Troll and Bilbo’s Gulavhar each also have that “really lived” feel in my eyes based on the way they are presented and painted and stand apart for that reason.

Jobu’s Drake and Ares B’s Dragon look great as well and I’d be proud to ever do one of these to that level. They are fantastic looking gaming pieces that will be a solid centerpiece to any force or for display if you don’t get into the gaming side of things much.

BizzareWarstar’s Huron…well…that is just an amazing, dynamic, exciting piece. I can’t look at that without hearing dramatic music playing, the sounds of a larger battle clashing in the background, and the desperate, terrified and angry screams of the troll as the tree drags him under the earth with his vengeful roots. That’s the kind of piece that brings a kind of immortality to the sculptor as people will always refer back to it. And your paint work on it has only enhanced it. You have gifts, no doubt about it.

I am not surprised that BizzareWarstar is winnning because it is spectacular, I still prefer Buckland's Gully though. One thing I am wondering is that I have a vote and the avenger001 does not, because his is way better than mine.

I think everyone did an amazing job on the monsters and this was really a great challenge to be involved in. Looks like BW's Huoron is the run-away winner and rightly so - it is just a beautiful miniature all round. The creativity, the sculpting, the painting, the story. Absolutely brilliant.

However, I decided to vote based mostly on improvement and on that score I had to vote for Ares B's dragon. I think the work on this is amazing and probably the best I have seen from you AB! Well done. I also think Wah Wing stepped up heaps with the troll.

Thanks to everyone who voted for me and provided some nice feedback. Beowulf you were especially kind and I really appreciate your comments. I'm pretty much in this hobby for my own enjoyment, but it is rewarding when others appreciate what you do.

I'm going to take a break from painting challenges for a while so I can finish off some terrain - but good luck to everyone going in the Glorfindel challange and I really look forward to seeing the entries!

It's nice to be able to get back into the site after being blocked by my anti-virus software yesterday.
