Uh, dude, maybe you are not as experienced with the game than I?
The rules are busted. In the normal rules you can field an army from Isengard, that has a Harad Mumak, Kamul from the Easterlings, a balrog from Moria, Burduhr from Angmar, and Sauron from Mordor as allies...peer cheese to me.
and yes, I play games that are 5,000 plus points, with the largest being 10,000 right now, andaccording to WOTR there is no limit on where you can get your allies from.
Maybe you should try playing the game with just a few more points than 500-1000? Have you seen my 5,000+ figure collection? I'm sure it dwarfs anything you might field, and yes, all painted, and yes, almost all are metal. There are lessons to be learned in the game mechanics that can only be seen if you play larger games.

That first part is redundant and offensive, so I'll just ignore it further.
I know they are busted. It's just that I assume that he'll have enough sense to realise "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should". And sometimes you want to use a profile from another list that suits a converted unit (for instance my planned Guards of Orthanc aka Black Numeoreans, which wouldn't be possible using your system..
Have fun. I hardly see the relevance.
I'd stick with 500-1000 points for learning, that should keep you from overcomplicating things with a huge army with lots of different things to keep track of. Even when you have the mini's, it's IMO better to begin small and slowly upgrade, at that point you can learn the larger-game mechanics.
