They have a high fight so gain more attacks any way.

Concerning Trolls, the best ones are Chieftains, or large quantities of lesser beasts.

They're better than you are giving credit for. Three attacks to start. If you charge it's +1. I believe the Mordor Troll's Fight value is about 3-4 higher than most basic Man armies so against them you would be at 7-8 dice. With their high Strength it's not unheard of to take out nearly a full Company like that. Against Elves it would be a little less ( 5 or 6 attack dice ) and against Dwarves or elite Men 6 is probably the average. Still not shabby.

It's also not unheard of that your enemy will fail a Courage test. If you have 1 or 2 Darkness casters and/or have your Troll go after basic formations that don't include an Epic then you can see your enemy suffer significantly more damage from the Troll with the Fight difference.

Again it gets back to the importance of protecting the Trolls and using them appropriately.

After reading some thoughts on this forum I realise now how much better you can use monsters, for instance leaving a gap just big enough between your infantry to squeeze your troll through is a great idea, and for some reason one thing I've not thought of.

Exactly! How you play a model is often more important than the stat line itself.
