Hey guys.

So I had an idea earlier that we should do a Secret Santa this year - we already do plenty of trades between members, so it's a logical progression, right?

The way it'd work is that you'd fill out a form I'd write, with basic stuff like interests, real name, address, etc, and PM it to myself. I would then draw names out of a hat, and PM users the interests of the user they have been drawn to buy for. There would be a deadline to buy presents, and when it hits, and I've confirmed everyone is sorted, I would then send out the addresses you would need to send your gift to. The smarter of you would probably figure who you're sending to at that point, especially if you've traded a lot before, but the idea is that you'd only find that out after you'd bought the gift anyway.

Obviously, for something of this scale, people would need to commit to following through and having a real interest in making it happen. I think it could be great, and a fun way to bring the community together.

Equally, it'll require a lot of planning on my part, and for that reason I'm putting this up now to gauge interest so we can get the ball rolling in time.

If you could post in this thread and also vote in the poll for easy reference, that'd be great.

Come on guys, let's have some fun with this. :-D

An addendum - the only reason I thought anonymous buying might be an idea is that I don't think I could trust y'all not to blab to each other. :P

Sounds fun but you would need a set price limit eg. £10 - would this be new or ebay stuff (new/used)? What about shipping all over the world (costs)? Its all a bit too much for one to take on. Good luck

That's a wonderful idea.
Count me in.
It might be a good idea to give everyone a person who lives in the same country (or on the same continent)
I can send letter-sized gifts to Europe and the Uk and Packages to the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg, Austria, Spain, The UK and Sweden.
Otherwise it would simply get to expensive.

That's a well thought out idea, and one I completely agree with. Incase of only having a single participant in a given location, I will include in the initial form a section for where people are willing to post to - hopefully that alone will solve any problems.

Good luck with Secret Santa (aka Chris Cringle in some places).
I have taken part in many of these, all office-based so no postage complications. Some of the gifts were, let's say, controversial...
I think the last one I got was a toy hand-grenade. No idea what they were thinking there. But it does make an interesting paperweight.

Hmm. Must come up with a Christmas Avatar.

Count me in! I live in mainland Europe (Switzerland to be exact) but postage of smaller goods (i.e figures) to and from the UK isn't too expensive (£3, I think)!

That's a lot of brackets in one sentence, my old English teacher would kill me. :P

If all those who have voted no could post their concerns, if they have any, it might help us iron things out even quicker ;)

Thanks to those who have pledged support so far though! Glad to have you on board.

I would say no because I couldn't possibly post abroad if selected, plus I have much less time.
