Post subject:  One Ring New Years Quiz! - The Results are in!

As most of you probably know very well, there has been no Winter-Competition this time. We (competition committee & admins) really understand the disappointment some of you expressed, we're sorry for that. But - there's always something you get in return, oh yes my love!

Within this and a few days/weeks the brand new concept of the One Ring Skill Based Awards (v2.0) will be revealed to all of you. So, all the information you would like to have about it is about to come, and I think it's no untruth if I tell you that it looks tremendously good after reviewing every aspect of the current system. We've put a lot of effort in it to please you all with a fun way to improve your skills and compete against friends. Great prizes are being provided as well, but we all know that that's just a side-issue, isn't it?!

But this Thread is about something else. Because we don't like muttering people ("They stole it from us!") we arranged something small to ease the pain of no Winter-Competition. I present you, the first Competition of 2007 - a One Ring New Years Quiz made by the Competition Committee (cough)
(EDIT just by Potenza but he is too modest to admit it) for all the members of the One Ring!
The One Ring – New Years Quiz (2007)
10 Questions - 2 Categories
(5 questions about Tolkien's world and Jackson's adaptation, 5 questions about the Hobby and this lovely Community)

a) Tolkien's world & Jackson's Adaptation

1. Helm’s Deep was surrounded by three tall and jagged mountains. How were they called and what does it mean?

2. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy was nominated for a certain amount of Academy Awards (Oscars). How much nominations received the three movies together, and how many did they win of those nominations (all together as well).

3. Under which name was Gandalf known in the undying lands? When was he send to Middle Earth and by who’s command? Why?

4. One of the Lord of the Rings actors played a small role for a while in the Australian Television Series “All Saints”, during the filming of the Lord of the Rings. What’s his real name and what’s the name of his character in the Lord of the Rings trilogy?

5. What’s the chief mark of royalty of the North-kingdom of Arnor? Did this chief mark still exist at the end of the third Age, and if so, how old was it at that moment?

b) Hobby and Community

6. What was the name of the first Gaming Supplement Games Workshop released for their Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game? The Supplement Book is divided into two sections, what’s the first part about (one word, a location in Middle Earth)?

7. All kind of competitions on the site are designed and run by the Competition Committee, a team of dedicated, hard-working, beer-swilling rock pigs. Give three random user names (nicknames) of members who are currently in this committee (without the admins). Add their first names too.

8. One the best Sculptors with an extensive shop is Ebob, of course. One of his newest models is the superb Giant Eagle. For this miniature he also sells two different bases. Give both official names (descriptions used by Ebob) and add their diameter as well.

9. If you would like to make trees yourself you can use two articles from the valuable One-Ring Article Library. How are both articles titled and who made them (nickname)? On which date were they submitted?

10. On the official Lord of the Rings page from Games Workshop you can find some hobby-related articles like scenarios and conversion guides. How many painting guides are available for the realm of Isengard?
How to participate, rules & additional info
a) How to participate?

Very simple, just PM me (yes, me and nobody else!) the right answers. Make sure your answers are written in understandable language and good referral to the questions. As you can see, the questions aren't easy and they require some research. But they are certainly not impossible to deal with. Most questions consist of several small questions, the more you can find the higher you score.

You have time to send me your marvelous answers (PMs) until 31 January 12.59 PM. Answers received afterwards are not accepted.

How and what will I win?

All answers will be reviewed by me. You can earn two points with every question. If you found 50% of the question you'll get 1/2, if it's 75% you get 1,5/2 and so on. Everything will be corrected carefully to make sure everyone gets the points he/she deserves. The one with the highest amount of points wins. If several people share the highest amount an innocent hand will choose!

What can you win? Ladies and Gentlemen... we're proud to present you, a brand new Invisible Frodo by Games Workshop!

<img src="http://www.azog.co.uk/oldazog/ORImages/Invisible Frodo.bmp">

- Only registered members can participate
- One answer per member
- Posting answers on the site/ in chat box, or anywhere else in public is strictly prohibited!
(Penalty guaranteed!)
- Discussing about possible answers is prohibited in public as well.
(Penalty guaranteed!)

Everyone found cheating will be banned from this quiz and further punishment might follow.

Additional info

If you would have some questions or troubles about this quiz you can always contact me via PM, mail or catch me in the madhouse (Chatroom). Other inquiries concerning competitions can be send to anyone of the Competition Committee. Mind you, I'm the only one with the right answers. (Really, everyone can participate this time, even Dagorlad and DurinsBane!)

So... I think everything I had to say is said and there's not much left for me to say, except...

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE ONE RING CREW!

Have fun with the quiz, be fair and give the best you have.

@Gothmog Rulez!, the word 'Supplement' means one of those books that GW releases from time to time that cover the models of a region or period in Middle-earth - the next one coming up is the Ruin of Arnor due out in February. I hope that helps.

Correct - supplements are the the 'side books' indeed.

Question 10 is about the UK (english) version by the way.

I found most answers in about 20 minutes. The only really hard one is question 7... I'm waiting until the last possible moment to find that one...

Yes of course, it's a great way of learning first names... But as for the usernames, it's a bit harder for newbies like me as I haven't found any "official" list anywhere. Anyway... great idea to get me reading all the posts on the site... :D
