I am considering some Hirst arts blocks(no more than 100 USD), and was wondering which ones you recommend for making Gondor/Khazad-Dum terrain. I am definitely getting the wall builder mold, and want pillars in another mold. Large ones preferably. So what do you recommend?
Also, how do I adhere them together? I know there are multiple ways, but what is the best way to do it?

Never used them, but wood glue works well with plaster

I use tacky glue on my plaster of paris, easier to use and the tip doesn't get as plugged for me as wood glue always seems to do for me.

Sadly, Hirst is lacking in the Khazad-Dum department. If you really want to make Dwarven terrain out of plaster, your best bet is to make something you like and cast moulds of it. The instructions are on his website. Otherwise, Dwarven terrain is best done in cardstock and cardboard or foamcore and styrene board.

I really like the Prison Tower, mostly for the arches and the really neat textured end pieces and use it all the time. I also bought the Inn, which has some nice window arches and enough straight pieces to make walls without buying the straight up boring brick mould. I also like the Octagonal Tower, especially if you want to do Minas Tirith or Rammas Echor like Zorpazorp Gaming does. Other than that, I'd recommend a gothic dungeon decor mould with arches and pillars you like.

I would not recommend the rubble moulds or the wood moulds, especially for a beginner. They are more difficult to cast and I honestly don't really like the wood mould--it does nothing for me. .

Keep in mind I am making Kazad Dum at the hight of its power, not after its fall.
Thus I figured wall builder for walls, floors, etc.
Fieldstone for steps, bridges, damaged sections.
Gothic arena for pillars and such.

I'm curious to see what you can do with that idea. It's just my opinion that the look is more Gondor than dwarven. By all means, go for it! The fieldstone also complements Rohan buildings very nicely. I find the slab of wall mould kind of a pain. The slabs are never the same thickness for me. Maybe if you put a piece of glass on top like Hirst suggests they will all be the same thickness and more seamless?
