With that castle as a base, I am planning to build a Terrain piece of Barad-dur and I would like some ideas on how I should build up the tower and place the great eye?

I would layer several layers of medium density foam. I did this model about 10 years ago for Dragon Con. You can cut the foam with a bread knife and use any kind of water based paint. The rocks are pine bark.
I have never built the castle kit from e bay . I do not know how well it will kit bash. I would build the parts you need from MDFB and engrave the texture to match the kit. MDF would be easier.
