Howdy, I'm just starting on a new terrain project. I don't play war games myself, instead I enjoy the craft/hobby side of it. But as this is my first terrain project I'm not sure what considerations I should make room for in terms of heights and space. Are there any guidelines around how tall walls and things should be, how wide paths should be in regards to the gaming side of things, or should I just use my best judgement against the size of the miniatures? Will hopefully start a WIP thread once I get some photos together. Cheers, Jeff |

This really varies, One person stays to very strickt rules while the other just builds whatever he likes. I use a few rules 3cm is somewhere around 2m and from that I just look how tall walls and how wide door should be etc. but I don't take that to stricktly and will usually keep a mini nearby Furthermore it might be wise to take a look at the architectural stile and a few reference pics but that isn't necessary. Looking forward to your wip |

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I've started by just doing what looks around right, was wondering if there were any gaming rules around what's high enough for cover etc. And how wide things should be for battles? Might be a bit restrictive for me to go by any, but was curious. Cheers |

It also depends on how much storage space you have available - there is no point in making something too large for any shelves, boxes or whatever you are planning to keep it in when not in use. |

... it's Minas Tirith I have some dedicated floor space for it - only scored that because my partner is in on the project too (she's more of a LOTR fan than I am). Basically, if nothing jumps out along the lines of "make sure x is ymm wide for this war-gaming scenario then I'm just going to use best judgement in all cases. |

btw,if you want to make the the outer walls of minas tirith like the book then they(and every tier above them)is 50cms high(well 49.95 but who cares) |

Ah, thanks We're making them 40cm high, so not too far off. |

A Minas Tirith project is always fascinating, I remember there were a few articles on the old Last Alliance site. There are no rights & wrongs in building to be honest, it's mostly your own judgment in my opinion. |
