Are you talking about making the text 'Golden' or just simply want to know how to write text on an image ?

Explaining how to get the text gold in appearance is quite lengthy to do in text, it would be much better talking you through it on MSN or via the chatroom.

I'd also be interested in learning how to get a more 'O-R' colour 3D effect using photoshop. My only guess is perhaps you could downloadi a layer style :s ???

The effect is done using Photoshop, but the same thing can be achieved in most high-end graphic packages.

Here's an attempt at explaining the technique using Photoshop 7 (although I really should take some screen shots to make it easier to understand) ...

Select the text tool and type in the text you want. Set the text size and font as appropriate - the One-Ring's logo text is called Ringbearer.

Select the text layer, open the Layer menu, choose Layer Style -> Blending Options. The Blending Options dialog box appears.

This is where all of the effects are applied.

Click the Bevel and Emboss option (making sure you click on the words, not just the tick box).

Set the following options:
Style: Inner Bevel
Technique: Chisel Hard
Depth: 450%
Direction: Down
Size: 100px

This will give you a very sharp bevelled appearance.

Next, click on Gradient Overlay

Click on the dropdown arrow next to the black to white Gradient. You will see a number of gradient patterns to choose from. Select the one that looks like shiny copper.

Click on the Gradient itself and the Gradient Editor dialog will be displayed. This is where you can change the actual colours of the gradient. Experiment with changing the colours to more yellowish tones.
