I'm thinking about starting this system (if only because the models are gorgeous lol) and I just wondered if anyone has played it, and can tell me what they thought of it?

Here's the link to the website if anyone else is interested http://www.infinitythegame.com/infinity/en

Check out MiniWarGaming's YouTube channel. You'll find all you could ever want on how the game plays and all.
I like a few of the models but there's a lot that just aren't my cup of tea so to speak. Otherwise I'd already play it

I've played a very small amount of the free, trimmed down rules. I had a good time - I can't recall any specifics, but I definitely remember enjoying it. Not very helpful, I know, but there you go. :D

I really like some of the minis, but some of them are really off putting. There are only so many g-string wearing soldier ladies in a game before I begin to feel like it's really juvenile, and some of the others (notably the dog soldiers and a lot of the PanOceana stuff) don't really hit me in the right spot. But a lot of the more down-to-earth minis, like the SAS, Metros, Haqqislam, and the Loup Garou are really cool.

The only reason i don't currently play is that I don't have a great deal of storage space for stuff right now, and LotR takes up 95% of that. It's a pretty terrain heavy game, so it's just out of my reach right now. One day I'd love to do it - I had visions once of expanding it to cover larger scale engagements using the Tomorrow's War rules.

This is exactly what I was referring to lol. I'm not a fan of "battlefield impractical" and it does make it feel juvenile, good points. I'm also not a fan of more of the anime style of art. That being said there are some models from the range I intend to purchase simply to paint up, because a few are quite impressive

Infinity is the only game that I play regulary nowdays. The figures are awesome and the factions are so different (they even play really different) that there is something for everybody. I personally dont like the miniskirt models, but the hey the sculpters are from spain so maby its a warm country thingy? :)

The rules are quite a mess. If you speak spanish, good for you. If you dont, prepare to wonder what it is what you are reading. Many of the rules in english are written poorly and the intention of the writer might be hard to find. I think that the rules are fun but they need some clarifications. All the rules are free and they can also be found in a wiki-page, where one can just type what ever they are looking for. The wiki has been a life saver for me, because with it you dont need to go through all the pages of the rule book to look for something like weapon ranges or stuff... The wiki is also better written than the rulebook and it has FAQ in it.

The game is quite balanced, but there is (atleast in my opinnion) a big factor of luck in it. There is so few dice rolling and you have always a 5% chance to crit so sometimes playing feels just like throwing a coin. Other times the dice goods are content and everything feels right. Balance between the factions is quite good. Everything dies so easy that I havent found yet any overpowered units that cant be dealt with. Every lock in the game has a key. Also all there is a ton of scenarios that people can play and the scenarios are quite different. In one you kill all and in other you try to evacuate your troops or press buttons with specialists. All that said I feel that the internal balance of the factions is not right. Some units are just better at what they do and there is no reason to take a cool loking model if you shoot yourself in the leg while taking it. I hope they figure out the internal balance thing in next edition that is supposed to come in december if I remember right.

If you have any specific questions I will happily answer any and all that I can!

Infinity would be an amazing game, interesting setting with nice varied actions, probably some of the best sculpted minis - although I agree the skimpy armour isn’t that appealing, cool mechanics like the order pool, out of turn reactions and an emphasis on cover plus it had an amazing army builder as well – it’s really fun to play around with and build armies and encouraged me to buy quite a few new units (GW could learn a trick here).

The main issue I have, why it’s as my friend observed a “flawed masterpiece” is the totally unnecessary rules bloat – they just have some many, something like 64 special rules, some specific to certain units but many also cancel other special rules out. There are about 40 different weapons in the game, some of which use one of the 10 or so different ammo types.

Essentially it felt the game forced us to refer to the rules book way too much, like in every turn something would come up and there are so many ambiguous statements in the rules we used to house rule or just fudge it

A new edition is coming out soon though, if it fixes the problems it would be an amazing game

After looking through the range again I agree that some of the models aren't as good as others. It's a shame you say the game's bloated major tom, although I've picked up the starter box for acontencimento (think that's how you spell it) and quite a few people around my area play it, so I fancy giving it a go.

Trying to be honest as it’s still an enjoyable game, it has alot going for it - especially if you know others playing. For me there are just issues that it needs to resolve to be great– it doesn’t feel necessary to have for example 5 different levels of martial arts a character can have and each grants or negates another special rule

Yeah tbh that does sound a little excessive, another reason i'm getting it I forget to mention is because it's extremely cheap (minus terrain) to get started, as the rules are free and all you really need is a starter set to have a decent sized game. I hope the game grows on you Tom, it seems quite tactically interesting with the "orders" or whatever they're called.
