I was going through alot of my bitz boxes today and finding some older plastic stuff and minis from citadels *golden era* and I can't help but think back about games like space hulk, advanced hero quest and warhammer quest.
I really miss the gw board games like this, I know profit wise, they are not that important to GW, we have all heard the story "oh it would cost us too much to make those board sections again* blah blah, but I can't help but crave to play these games again.
There was something really classic about all of them, from walking through a space hulk and using new rules for standard marines or chaos, or the ongoing adventures with random fb monsters in deep dungeons, exploring areas etc.
To me these types of games really captured a great old school fun experience, something I feel which has been lost in the last 5 years with all the heavy cookie cutter armies and tourny cheese lists that everyone plays.
In my honest opinion, I really have to question if 40k and fb are even fun games anymore, no matter how much they are tweaked or rules are fixed to make play better or faster, it seems like all anyone seems to care about is winning at this point, or making uber lists.
Sure there is specialist games now, and many of those are free to download, but the support is pretty bad as no new minis really get released, bits are somewhat gone as are many of the minis from those ranges ( which happened a long time ago now I know ).
Thinking back to both SH and WQ, looking at both games hard....the reality is GW could actually make a fair bit of money with these, as using them as add ons to both core games, in a similar fashion as apocalypse.
What I mean is, yes both have their traditional format dungeon crawl with small squads and hordes of monsters, but these could easily be tweaked as an expansion for larger scale underground battles, with probably the exception of larger sized models or tanks.
Considering the size of the plastic movement trasy, gw could quite easily make board sections in plastic now which I am pretty sure would sell like nicotine as they would be durable and serve many uses and could very easily only take up 2-4 spures at most.
Imagine marketing a game like space hulk with varied plastic sections, then come out with expansions for such things like big sewer complexes, so you could have a marine cleansing army in some hive world cleaning out a stealer infestation, or a dark elder witch cult and things like that, you could market the basic game and at the same time, give existing players with armies a new option, something like city fight only this is totaly inside fighting, it would be like meat grinder battles or house to house almost.
*sigh*
I really miss those eras
