Hey everyone.
I've been collecting Dark Angels for some time now and have played a few games with them. Though, I've always wondered why don't they have the special ability of orbital bombardment (or any other Space Marine Chapters like Blood Angels or Space Wolves for that matter) like the Space Marines do in their codex?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Dark Angels a fleet-based army? I read somewhere (I think in the codex) that the orbiting ships would bombard the defending planets defenses while Drop-pods scream into the heart of the enemy for a quick and total victory.

Is there any way of gaining this special rule? Is it possible it'll be in an updated codex in the future?

Thanks for your help. Sorry if this has been brought up before.

The Dark Angels Codex is older than the current Space Marines codex (I play Codex compliant Raven Guard) so the Orbital Bombardment rule in its current form was probably first introduced in the 5th Ed. Codex. (Daemon Hunters probably had it or something similar before anyone else).

In any case, theres no need to fret. The Rumour Mill has been overheating recently with talks of a 6th Edition Warhammer 40,000 this year and most people expect Dark Angels vs Chaos Renegades / Legions for the starter set. In which case Dark Angels will most certainly get a new Codex.

Any rumor on when new codex's will come out/ Which faction is due for an update? etc.

'This year' is about as specific as it gets I'm afraid. Rumours have been wildly speculative, but its generally agreed that Dark Angels and Chaos Space Marines are coming.

Hey thanks. Hopefully it's before October as I'd have to wait a few years after that to use them. :(

Forgive me if this is sheer ignorance, as I've never played, but: Why wouldn't the addition of orbital bombardment to the general SM rules supersede its absence in earlier chapter codices? Shouldn't you have it simply because a newer book included it for the Space Marines in general?

No because they are completely seperate Codicies...The Chapter Codicies are not just some supplements or expansions to the general SM Codex, they are unique Codicies in their own right. You can't cherry pick things you like from each Codex, its one or the other.
