Sorry to say you this, jdizzy, but it seems to me rather that Ghan has met a Medusa - Pukelmen were not so sophisticated sculptors. |

I know they weren't. But painting stone is much easier than wood grain. |

It's really a nice idea, to make a pukelman statue. And the idea of an orc frightening effect could be interesing in a game. I have read again in Tolkien's The Retrun of the King about pukelman: These statues were indeed made of stone, not of wood. It can be read in the chapter "The muster of Rohan". Here is the description: "At each turn of the road there were great standing stones that had been carved in the likeness of men, huge and clumsy-limbed, squatting cross-legged with their stumpy arms folded on fat bellies. Some in the wearing of the years had lost all features save the dark holes of their eyes that still stared sadly at the passers-by." So, stone is correct, but the position of the figure is not and the fine details are not either. I hope this information will not cause dismay at you. Perhaps you could say, this special pukelman is from a later age, younger, and in another style than the old fashioned ones from Rohan. Who knows? |

No dismay here. I had an extra ghan buri ghan and wanted to do something different. |

Well, I like it. I think it was quite well done and really like the mushrooms on the base. |

I remember the statues mentioned in the book as merry saw them riding with dernhelm. Great idea and use of the figure. |

No problem. I made them from GS. I rolled out a small sausage of GS and then cut it into small segments for the stalks and for the caps I rolled out a really small ball of GS then pressed it with my sculpting tool, which caused it to make little discs. After that I let the two pieces cure. Once cured I placed a dab of super glue on the cap and set the stalk into it. |
