Best piece of advice I can offer to a new painter, is be sparing with your paint and thin it down a little. Look forward to seeing how you get on. Good luck! |

Try not to apply paint to your model too thickly so to obscure detail is what he means. For your first few models don't get too hung up on tying to make them look like the picture you have in your head as it doesn't happen right away and comes with practice. I find it easier working from a black undercoat. Main thing is to have fun with it. Paint a model and post a picture and we can work from there. Lots of fantastic painters here on the site who will be able to offer guidance as you go. |

It would certainly be easier to start with warriors rather than jumping straight into hero models. I wouldn't get too hung up on trying to copy other peoples schemes just yet either bud. Just go with the colours you like and get use to painting the models themselves. Once you start to get some confidence built up then start to look at painting stuff like BizarreWarstar. Bizarrewarstar uses a quite technical method of painting on a lot of his models and mainly works in glazes. 90% of painting models is confidence. If you try to do too much too soon it can have a negative effect on this confidence. |

It's not that I want to exactly copy that scheme, I had roughly the same idea in mind on the color scheme because of the few paint color so I could keep it simple and clean . |

Yeh sorry I didn't put that too well did I lol. You got what i meant tho. I don't use GW paints so couldn't tell you wht colours to buy I'm afraid. If you have a scheme in mind buy the base colours, a black and an off white like bleached bone or ushbati bone or whtever it called these days. The bone colour can be added to the base colours to create lighter shades for highlighting. Agrax earthshade is a great wash for shading too. |

Yeah, DMS was right - what I meant by be 'sparing' is basically try not to put too much paint on your brush so as to avoid blobbing a load on and losing the detail. I agree that something like those dwarves may be a safer place to start than trying to dive straight in onto some tricky heroes - something where you can pick a few main blocks of different colour without a vast amount of detail and keep it simple and clean as you said. But really just start somewhere and see how it goes |

For the armour and weapons I was thinking of: - Leadbelcher - Base - Nuln Oil - Shade - Ironbreaker - Layer - Runefang Steel - Layer - Necron Compound - Dry For the clothing and wooden parts and beards I wanted to use: - Mournfang Brown - Base - Agrax Earthshade - Shade - Skrag Brown - Layer - Deathclaw Brown - Layer - Tyrant Skull - Dry Since I have no brushes I also thought of these: - S Base - S Dry - S Shade - S Layer For priming I thought of one Chaos Black Spray. Any feedback? Edit: Any tips for the flesh/skin are also welcome! I was thinking of Cadian Flesh. |

Good luck with your first foray into the hobby. DMS's advice is to be heeded. Just take your time and be as neat as possible. You will improve and progress fairly quickly to start with. For the flesh add Reikland Fleshshade after Cadian Flesh then highlight with Kislev Flesh. Fairly basic but the effect should be pleasing for a first go. If you've got a local GW store you should be able to get some first hand advice from there. Just practice and be patient. Once you've got some paint on your models put some pictures on here and people will be able to advise on specifics. Most of all enjoy it.........it is supposed to be a hobby! |

I think if I were you I'd go back and make sure those metal minis are totally covered with the primer - paint chips really easily off metals I feel. |

Can confirm, paint does chip of metal models easily, so make sure those models have a nice undercoat. Other than that looks like you have a nice start underway, best of luck! |
