I thought I would restart my WIP now that I have figured out how to post pictures properly. Anyway my background is in 40K and Warhammer but I really dislike the current stuff GW puts out for those lines as they are very cartoonish and often unrealistic and ridiculous looking. GW's Lord of the Rings minis had caught my eyes for years as I love J. R. R. Tolkien's universe and have read and watched everything under the sun related to it. Anyway I had always thought that GW's prices were too expensive compared to what they were when I collected back in the 80s, but I saw so many models going OOP that I decided if I did not start now I would miss out on all the fun. So last year I started collecting and now have a pretty respectable collection to work on painting. This topic with cover my work as I progress through painting my minis starting with Harad.

First up is my first Harad King on foot.

I am not a good photographer my any means so please excuse my poor pictures. Comments and constructive criticism are greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing what y'all think!

Great work, all i would suggest is adding some grit to the base and painting it. Have a look at other peoples work to see what i mean. Great painting.

Yeah I have not finished the bases yet. That will be next for him. Probably touch him up a little as well. I wish the pics were better but I am working on getting the lighting a bit better, hopefully it will improve the quality of the pics. Thanks for the comment! Next up are some Harad Warriors.

Now for some Harad Warriors. The bases are not done yet but the minis are close to completion. I am doing these in groups of eight for use in War of the Ring (yes I have that many to paint).

Really like the use of the blue on those. I'll be painting some Haradrim next month, and might have to steal that!

Thanks Paradigm! I have more pics to upload but the uploads are bogging down my computer right now. I'll try to get them up soon.

Here are some pairs and then a group shot. I think these pics turned out a little bit better.

Good color scheme, I like the rich blue on red. Are you using the dip method of shading on these?

I am indeed dipping the warriors. First I base coat them, then dip, and then I dull coat them as they come out of the dip way too shiny. I think it shows up more in the pictures than when I look at them because of the lighting.

Yes, they look shiny. Buy some good matt coat and you will be fine.

That's the plan! I am working on perfecting my formula. I have some walnut stain I am thinking of using as I have been using a wood stain.

Now knowing for sure that you are dipping, the follow up question would be, do you wish to progress your painting or are you happy with the result you have here?
I know dipping is a fast way to get armies on the field and the results are not too bad. There are also people out there that spend several paint sessions on one model that may never see a fate roll on the table top. Both are perfectly fine, just want to know, as will some others, so we don't offer advice or suggestions unlooked for.

I am only going to dip the warriors. The Harad King was completely painted and I am sure you can see the difference. I am going to touch up the warriors but they really are not at all as shiny as the picture shows. I think the lighting really captured all the highlights from the dip as opposed to when I look at them with my naked eye. I hope to move on to some more interesting models soon. Suladan is coming up!
