I love the scouts, but want to add some more elite troops to the mix. First up, a crossbowman. I had a damaged finecast model so converted a scout bowman. I'm thinking of doing a head swap on a berserker (for a bare Uruk head or scout head). I suspect it's going to be pretty hard with a metal model - any tips? |

That is so COOL. You have no idea how much I love a good quality conversion. |

That looks awesome! What happened to the rest of that Uruk though? |

Thanks! The rest is now in my bits box, and he was cheap to begin with as he was in a lot of damaged finecast models. There are elements like the chainmail texture and belt I may be able to use in future. I have a spare bolt quiver too. |

I like what you've done here. Very nice conversion, painted well with excellent leather and woodwork. |

Thanks for the kind words. I should have some berserkers to play with later in the week, so I'll post some updates with those. One may get a new head if I can decide on a donor... |

My berserker conversion is under way. Getting the heads off the metal figures was really hard, but it's going okay so far. It's just glued together for now - the next step will be to smooth things out with some greenstuff. |

Nice looking conversion. It's great to see a metal figure again. |

Excited to see the finished berserker. I always imagined then with shaved heads under the helmet but this one looks cool |

It's taken far too long, but the Berserker is now finished. Not perfect, but I'm quite pleased with how he turned out. I'll try to post a picture of the back tomorrow! |

Great work mate! Really super conversions, I especially love that Crossbow conversion! Could you give me a run-down of the paint scheme you used? That would be really helpful as I never really got a good one going when I painted the Scouts a number of years ago and I really like yours. Thanks |

That would be really helpful as I never really got a good one going when I painted the Scouts a number of years ago and I really like yours. Thanks so much! The painting is on black base coat and 90% drybrushing. I'll list the colours - they're mixed in stages so the first layer for skin is terracotta mixed with black, moving to pure terracotta, then mixed with tanned flesh ,etc. Skin Black -> GW Terracotta -> GW Tanned Flesh I then went back with some washes of dilute terracotta to smooth things out. Leather Black -> Mix of Burnt Umber / Burnt Sienna and a dash of GW Tanned Flesh Metal Mix of Black / Burnt Umber / Burnt Sienna -> mid Grey (I.e. adding white) Wash with a rust colour (Yellow / Orange / Burnt Sienna) Lightly drybrush GW Mithril Silver Highlight GW Mithril Silver / White My bases are all made with sand mixed with PVA. In this case I left pools of stagnant water and added some crumbled real leaves and dead static grass. |

That Berserker conversion is also fantastically done and painted! The dirty look you have given them is great and I'll certainly bear it mind when I get round to painting my backlog of Isengard miniatures. I may even try something similar re the crossbow conversion - I got an "unopened" metal blister off eBay that had 3 of the same bodies but only had 2 matching arms, and supplied me with the crossbow separate part instead of the 3rd matching arm |
