Here is the first of my trolls for my diorama challenge.
I have swapped the spoon for a knife but other than that, no change.
So far I have done the skin, with the leather only base coated. So I am keen to get everyones feedback on how he looks. I have tried to work the OSL for directly above.Image

I'm wondering if I need to go lighter on the left thigh and darker on the right ? If there is anything else that anybody spots I will be delighted to know.

Very nice Mally, look forward to seeing the diorama.
Have you tried a milk carton light box?

Brilliant work! TBH, I think if you go any lighter on the left thigh, it may look a bit out of place as I think it looks perfect as it is. But that's probably just me as I wouldn't want to ruin anything if that was my mini. However, with your skills it's probably extremely difficult for you to mess it up! :)

Great work yet again. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I used an ikea bin with a whole cut out, then stuck my daylight lamp above it. I had to mess about with my camera settings but it's not too bad a photo, for me anyway.

I use Vallejo Model Colour mainly and the skin is basic skin tone, highlighted with an Ivory mix. Shading is using dark fleshtone with glazes of smoke and black. I applied some thinned liche purple around the eyes and the deeper folds to create depth.
I mixed some red leather, dark skin tone and a little liche purple for the scars.
For the painting itself I kept looking At the figure from directly above to see the areas that the light would hit, if I couldn't see it then it need some shading.

Thanks for the comments.
I simply haven't had chance to do anything with this as yet. I think I am going to add more highlight and shading to extenuate the contrast and set off the OSL better. The photo perhaps shows up a little more contrast than in real life so I'm hoping a little tinkering will help.
If anybody has anything then please feel free to be as harsh as you want, I can't stress that enough.

Looking good so far.

I think you should work on the dark shadings, the shadows could be darker.

You have choosen almost pure white on large areas as highlight, I would reduce these areas a bit by working on the blending between these areas an the rest.

Don't get me wrong, it looks good, just because you have asked for ideas.

I think the blending on your skin is spectacular. Keep up the good work!

Great work on the skin tone, I also like the red worked into the leather.

Thanks for this feedback, just what I was after. I think you are right, I will look to tone down areas of white slightly and increase the dark shadow.

I'm also delighted that all seem to like it so far, hopefully I will get some chance to work on it in the next few days and really get it moving along.

Having taken on the advice from Thao I have progressed this to a point I think I am fairly happy with. The photos are better as I took advantage of some glorious sunlight today, there is just the knife blade to complete, which I will do tonight.ImageImageImage[URL=http://s832.photobucket.com/user/mallyally17/media/Mobile%20Uploads/P1020627.jpg.html]Image

Fantastic work :yay: The skin is excellent looking, possibly the most realistic of these trolls I have seen. Also, the blending on the OSL looks top notch 8)

I shall be looking forward to seeing the other two :)

I can appreciate your work alot more now with that photo, I'm sure it would win a figure competition let alone a diorama competition.

Your paint job makes it look like the sculpt is a finely textured resin, superb work.

Thank you to those that have made comment, it means a lot to get feedback as you are never sure on how well you are doing or what improvements you can make unless people take the time, thanks again.
Paul - I'm pleased you regard it that highly and am humbled. I personally think there is improvement to make, but luckily I have another two to go at.
Gothmog - when this is fixed in place I intend to add some pigments to the ground, which will be on the feet and lower legs. Hopefully this will add to the grubbier appearance.
