I seem to have taken a break from painting for some time....just work and family taking up most of my time. Work has settled down a bit as I am adjusting into my new roles. This frees up some time to paint!

I have a about 20+ First Age elves to paint...and have been making progress. The photos wash out some of the color, but I am planning on making the cloaks a little darker to define them a bit. They look darker in "real life", but I need to define them and the armor a bit more.

I have been SLOWLY working on my Escape from Goblin Town set. Not much to show in way of progress except for these two. Still loads to do on each:

Those high elf conversions are awesome!! They are really really really great!

For the rest really nice miniatures!! Looking forward to see some progress.

The only bit of critique I could think of would be to wait before applying the wash a little bit more, because on the ringwraith it looks a bit flashy. But for the rest awesome!!!

It is "dullcoted" but....not very dull. I started using a new flat clear coat...and its not flat at all. I am going to go back to Tamiya flat clear. Just seems to work best.

Any other suggestions for clear coating?

Testors Dullcote is the best by far. I have used it several times and is brilliant. You do lose the slights of highlights, if I was being totally honest, but depending on what you want then it may fit the bill.
After painting the figure, you apply a layer of gloss. Let that dry then apply 1-2 layers of dullcote which means you get the protection of the gloss and the look of the dullcote.

Nice job with Cirion, just touch up that highlight at the bottom and he would be right on the money.
As for the High Elves, they look good but to me the cloak needs to be either darker or lighter. The current tone looks ok, but it is the same as the armour so it all just blurs together. I think the armour is pretty good, another dark wash maybe, but I think changing the cloak would help.

The conversions are very smart, and look just like the images from the film stills. Have you used the spare parts to convert the original swordsmen into spearmen with shields?

I also like the Great Goblins base, which really adds something to the model. The paint job on the Tainted has really given him a feeling of brooding malevolent corruption!

@Bilbo the High Elves were part of the metal set with the captain and banner carriers. I cut of the banners and fixed the armor. The sword blades were cut off the plastic High Elves.

@Hodush...I agree completely with you regarding the cloaks. I am working on new colors now.

Some more work. Finished Balin. Well I think I did. I may go back and try to add some detailing to his robes.

I also finished my Warriors of Erebor.

I also took a look at my backlog. It is scary. I mean scary. I am not going to be buying a lot of new minis until I start knocking this backlog down. Once I take pics of my shop...you will understand.

I started taking figures out of boxes and cleaning them up...getting them ready for primer.

First up we have Easterlings.

Image

Once its a bit warmer out, I will take these (and others) out and give them some rattle can primer.

Worked on a few of these today. Some touchups and such. Need to fix Legolas' eye. Seemed ok until I photographed it. LOL.

The Army of the Dead soldier is much greener in person.

very cool, Cirdan is my favourite. Love the blue cloth, subtle yet effective.
