This has been a dream of mine since seeing this image:



David Simpson took the pic at Warhammer World. It looks amazing and must be great fun to play on... it has to happen!

There are some considerations though. I don't want to spend a million pounds on the Goblin Town scenery, so I've settled for 2 sets of it (4 sprues total). Also it needs to be portable; I don't have infinity space in my flat and I want it to easily fit in the car, so it's going to be built in 4 modular pieces.

I've been collecting bits and pieces for a while now and finally decided it's time to get cracking on it, so here is the current layout with the structure built up:











There are lots of platforms with multiple routes, which should really add to the gameplay. There are also some interesting choices to make as there are some leapable gaps dotted around, which should encourage heroic shenanigans.

I was also conscious of having space for the objectives, so each quadrant has at least 1 place to put one on, and there is obviously the 'throne platform' in the middle for the central objective.

It doesn't quite have the height of the WHW board but as this is modular I can always make another quadrant later on.

I'll be working on this today so hopefully there'll be an update later with the rocks put in; I'm planning on using crushed newspaper with overlaid clay cloth, which I haven't used before so it'll be exciting to see what happens!

Superb start on what should become a great gaming table. Good luck with the project !!

Looks promising. You could always make your own wooden walkways with dowel and those coffee stirrers you get in cafes (free!). Rough them up on the edges.

Quick newspaper update:



I tried to add some rocky outcrops to give it some height variation and there are also some sneaky places to hide from arrows.

Now for the messy part; I have no idea if this will work or not, so I'm quite excited to see what happens!

Well I was hoping to get the whole board plastered tonight but I ran out of plaster cloth. If anyone is interested so far I've used 4x3m rolls and I've ordered another 8, as I reckon I'll need at least 4-6 more to cover the board. I was tempted to finish the rest with normal plaster of paris but I think that would get way too messy and I'd struggle to get the effect I want, so I'll play the waiting game.







It's looking good in some places but it's becoming apparent that some platforms are too straight, so I might add more newspaper on top of this layer to make more rocky outcrops.

Hopefully I'll get to work on this again next week!

I'm keeping my eye on this topic since I also plan to build such a board somewhere next year. I'm currently experimenting with moldmaking to replicate the Goblin Town scenery. So far rubber molds didn't work out, up next: clay molds

I have a similar project almost finished, but have managed to get a few bargains on eBay.

Wow that looks so much fun to game on! Will you have a little bit of water for Gollum's cave?

If you have some plaster you can use plaster soaked paper towels. I like the bandages because they are neater/clearer. The point is you wont have to wait. It looks good so far!

Yeah maybe you can , the walkways of the EFGT scenery are not level but have a slight kink in them near the end (if thats the correct term). I don't know how to deal with that without making a two part mold.

You are correct a two part mold is the answer. The cost of duplicating that in resin will will exceed the cost of purchasing them retail. Until you produce hundreds.
The clay mold? I think you mean a press mold. That will be cost effective for reproducing the small bones and details to add to something like craft sticks. Cutting a section in to smaller parts might help for one part molds but you will still loose the detail on the bottom.
