So, I've recently started painting again.
I think it was about six years ago I had painted my last mini!
While watching the entire lotr trilogy, I remembered I had some minis somewhere.
Now I'm really getting into the hobby again and I wanted to show you guys my work so far!
I had done some harad warriors when I was 14, but they're awful!
Instead I'll post some pics of some Warriors of Rohan (archers) which I finished earlier this week. I haven't done the bases yet, because I barely have any materials to do so.

Image
I'm too afraid to do the eyes :D

Image
The two one the right got a goblin green drybrush before getting a bleached bone drybrush. The one on the left only got bleached bone. Thoughts?

Image
Not happy with the armour. Used a fortress grey drybrush, as that's the only grey I've got. Going to the store to get some chainmail asap!

I don't know when I'll be posting my next update. Working on some other warriors of rohan atm, experimenting with some slightly different colour schemes (not too drastic thoug).
Oh, and sorry for the dull background :D

Looking good :) I like the one with goblin green, then bleached bone best. I do it the same way, with snot green though (dark angels green -> snot green -> bleached bone)
And yeah you should really pick up some metallic paints for the armour :-D

I'm working on warriors of Rohan too at the moment, PM me if you'd like to share any thoughts/ideas

Their colour of the cloaks is really nice. That's the colour I always wanted the Rohirim to have. But I find their faces too pale. Have you tried adding some wash? It will really bring them to life.

Double that; wash is good stuff. Very good stuff.

Totally agree with you!
My skin bits are way too pale.
What wash would you recommend?
I'm not yet using their new paints, so if you could just give an idea of the colour the wash should have ^^
I used washes on the cloaks, so I'm familiar with how to apply them, just wasn't too sure about skin colours.
They're my first minis in 6 years and I was really happy with them so far, didn't want to ruin them with a wrong wash ;D

Thanks for the feedback!

I'd use tanned flesh or dark flesh as a base, then dwarf flesh followed up by a flesh wash. Then a highlight with elf flesh. :)

edit : a brownish wash might work as well

Ok, with my new models, I'll try something like you suggested.
I'll give the ones I've already painted a wash ^^

Cool ^^ Do mind, this is just my way of doing it. You should just try out different things to find out what works best for you!

Cheers

Yeah, I'll experiment with the washes a bit (on my haradrim most likely).
Btw, did you get my pm?

A good all over wash of agrax earthshade. Leave to dry and then see what you think. They should look great after. Anyway nice models so far :yay:

Be sure to use a very fine brush I'd say :P

That wash of agrax earthshade, only on the skin parts right? Or do you mean the entire model?
I'll try to do the eyes on my old Haradrim models ;D

Sure! They're painted six years ago, so they're nothing to be proud of. I think the way they're now is a decent starting point to improve them. But I'll post a few pics ^^

Over the whole model and dont be shy. The wash will stain the colours making the models look more defined. Highlights will darken but it is how i paint my minis and they look great.

Great painting btw.
Not sure about your question though, as I'm still quite new to the hobby

@ John Wayne: Your models look great! So maybe I'll just do what you said

@LordElrond: Thanks! I'll post those 6-year old riders tomorrow together with some other WoR I've been working on this week.

Posting some pics of unfinished minis, because this is a work in progress thread after all :)

Image
This is an example of what my cavalry looks like right now. They were painted 6 years ago, had no clue of shading etc. But I believe they're a good starting point now.

Image
To the left is an unfinished model. The paint scheme is better on that one imo, because of the brownish red I used, compared to the very subtle red on the right one. The left one still needs shading and highlights, though. The sword also remains to be painted, but I haven't got the right paints yet. They both need new skin colours which I'll fix with a brownish shade.

Image
Clear difference between unfinished and finished.

Image
Something new I tried with the golden armour. I think they'll look great once they're finished.

I think I'll be able to post some new pics at the end of the week once I've finished all 8 sword/axemen.
