Your Bolg looks very nice. I have a suggestion to make for your Ashrak. Use a brown or black wash to add shading. Washes are very a very effective and easy way to shade a miniature. It works particularly well on highly rippled areas like cloaks.

Edit: As I was writing the post I saw your next bunch of pictures. Your Balrog is amazing!!! Can you post some more pictures of him from different angles?

:-D Once again, he looks great!

Has that balrog been modified slightly? I see flames all the way to the tip of the tail.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, really appreciate it, as for the balrog it's been greenstuffed quite heavily mainly because I like fire and the balrogs my favorite so I wanted him to stand out and as requested more pics :D

Just thought I'd post some pics of my in-progress gaming board. Currently I need to finish the water and flock it. C&Cs appreciated, especially tips on flocking 8)

Besides from flocking and finishing the water effects I don't believe there's much more, bridges and trees etc. will be movable and I don't know what else I could add

A removable rockslide/scree that would impede the approach to either of the sloped sections so all the action could revolve around holding/capturing a bridge and then assaulting the only path to the top of the cliff. To make it fair, the defenders would have only 40-50% of the points cost of the attackers list value.

The waterfall looks good. 8)

Now would be a good time to add some pea gravel sized river stone to the river bed. I like to use polished stones. Add them between layers of water. I am not sure what water product you are using. Thin layers work best. Don't add any kind of flocking material until the water medium is very dry. Be careful of the glue you use to attach the flocking. The water medium can cause the flocking to float if you add it between layers of water product. Some of the different products are very subject to capillary action. Test the water medium on something small if you try to embed static grass in the water.
I like to finish the water/river then flock to the edge when the water/river is dry. I already mentioned that the water medium will creep up the edge of the bank rather than lie flat.
Do you favor a brand of Flocking? I use most everything plus make my own.

Interesting idea, I'm probably going to try that after I've finished the board

Should the gravel be painted and if so is there a certain colour I should paint it, pics would be appreciated. I'll probably have no grass in the river as for brands on grass it's GWs and water it's woodland scenics.

I have collected colored pebbles so I don't paint them. The pea gravel in the peanut butter jar I saved from a garden project. The polished stones are for floral arrangements. I like the cheap plain stones from the dollar store. If you need to paint the stones use the same colors you use for the ground work. The red cookie tin contains a mix/blend of most of the flocking I use.

Image

Add a thin layer of water medium after the stones are in place. I used a product usually used for finishing furniture for this project. I am not going to recommend it. It can not be used with foam.

Image

Add the flocking to the edge of the water medium so that you can cover any capillary effects. Most people wont notice the pebble on the left. I think I a splashed some of the water medium on it. There is some capillary creep on it as well. I repaired it with flat varnish. I should say clear flat finish to avoid confusion.

Image

The backdrop rocks/cliffs are pine bark. The cave door and details are Hirst Arts cavern cast. You can see a few more polished stones about.I make as much of my wargaming terrain as modular as I can. I have been known to go off the Deep end on a project or two.
