This WIP will chronicle the progress of my Army of the Witch King. A progress so slow you would think I was dead. Fortunately I'm not, I tried to take a wargaming hiatus. I guess you know how that went . I got into 2 new games Empire of the Dead and Infinity. So Now I'm trying to juggle all three at once. I've purchased and even trading some new figures for this project. I've added them to small collection I've built over a few years now. Now its time to convert and paint them into an army. My last WIP was 6 years ago! My mordor orc conversions from that thread will figure into this one. Here is the old thread for anyone interested in ancient history. viewtopic.php?f=50&t=20251&hilit=war+of+dwarves+and+orcs+kidterminal |

The model 'Nain' is awesome! Just how I imagined the dwarf warriors when I read the Hobbit for the first time (abiet with bigger beards) Great stuff |

GothmogtheWerewolf wrote: Ah good, some Angmar and Moria stuff coming, love the beasties and spirits. Don't keep us waiting. EDIT: Nice Orc conversions, Grimdalf is funny Sorry no Moria goblins. I'm thinking of the Large warlike orcs from the Misty Mountains who ambushed Isildur at the Gladden Fields. I bought a number of things back in November for this project. Warg Riders, Wild Wargs, Morannon orcs, Morannon orc captains, Orc shaman on warg, Mordor uruk-hai alternate positions and a Twilight ringwraith. Yes I paid the newer prices for the plastics. And let me tell you I felt violated when I pulled out just one sprue of morannon orcs. Intellectually I knew but when I physically held only one sprue in my hand. It was like a kick in the nuts. I did some trading this month and gained some Mordor swag. Needless to say I haven't painted a single one of these figures yet. I haven't even unboxed them yet. I have a bunch of primed and half painted miniatures from this project around the house. I'll start posting them in their current condition. Hopefully seeing them on this forum "unfinished" will motivate me to "finish" the project. |

I've opened the cupboards in search of the figures I've been hording for years to make the Witch King's army. Please excuse the poor pictures I have only a makeshift photo setup. And my camera is slowly dying. Time to set this rambling preamble aside. Shade I didn't like the GW shade when I first saw it. So I got this Reaper figure. I started painting it years ago but never finished it. What do you think? Orcs Here is the state of the orc conversions I made years ago. I have many more unassembled in my bins. Barrow Wright I have this Celtos figure I thought of using about as a Barrow Wright long ago. Now I have the offical ones but this figure is thicker than the official ones. What do you think should I use it? I'm still pulling figures out of the cupboard. Right now I'm priming orc captains, barrow wrights (official ones) and metal warg riders. I'll take more pictures tomorrow. You readers and I will find out just how many figures did I squirrel away for this project over the years. |

I have one issue though. I don't have a Witch King figure. I don't want to use the official one its to end of the 3rd age. The Witch King looked different when he was rampaging through the west. I'm thinking of converting the King of the Dead. What do you guys thin about that? |

How big is that reaper shade figure? They're supposed to be on 40mm bases. I've been looking for shade alternatives (The sculpts are fine, I just don't want to pay the $), and found this guy, who seemed like he would work well. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/360351402695?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 |

It's big. I have the other one too. It's no ware near as wide but it's tall, like 34mm. Give me a day and I'll post a picture of the ghost on a 40mm base and you can compare. |

Pity you haven't gotten many replies. Those orcses are nicely done. The Shade seems well found, but I like the official one as it remindsr a BGIM me of the Absorbaloff in Doctor Who. For the W-K, I think a Twilight Ringwraith would be better. Or a BFMEII sculpt. |

Thanks GothmogtheWerewolf. I will be doing more orc conversions. I've at least a dozen chopped up Mordor orcs, 3-5 extra plastic warg riders to combine together. I'm thinking a Twilight Wraith is best myself. I have the one with the raised sword. I'll sculpt the iron crown on him. I'd like a mounted version too. But I don't have any ideas on that. Now what to do with the King of the Dead? |

I recall in a WD, before they made the Angmar book, they had unofficial rules for them, and included the men of Carn Dûm, modelled as AoTD painted like they were still alive. You could use the king as an allied Dunlending Captain, and ally more men as the Men of Angmar. |

I have that article some where. Actually I'm thinking of using Gripping Beast vikings for the men of Carn Dûm. I have those Kings of Men figures for the their King, What do you think Fellow W-K enthusiast? |

... I think I know what I'm using for my Men of Carn Dûm now! Haha, I keep forgetting my FLGS isn't a Games Workshop anymore, I think those'll work nicely. But a King of Men seems too...clean to lead them. Maybe a big Anglo-Saxon brute or something. What will you run your men as? |

I like those Gripping Beast guys, though the prevalence of chainmail isn't my idea of the "Barbarians of Carn Dum". I would lean more towards Celts or Age of Conan type figures. They look nice regardless. |

Rules wise? Dunland Warriors I'm thinking. You may be right about the kings for men they are rather Gondorian. Gripping Beast has Metal heroes and horsemen. |

There you go! I have to agree with you there. The Gripping Beast guys make great Dunlendings! I'm in the middle of making my Dunland army using them and Black Tree Design & Wargames Factory for my Dunlanders and Wild men. |

he AotD painted as Carn Dum can also be found in the Battlehosts book for WotR y the way. If you allied in Dunleding profiles, you could take them in your Angmar army too. |

That WD article has profiles for the men of Carn Dum doesn't it? I was planning on using the stats of Dunlend warriors for my Carn Dum warriors. But if the WD has profiles I can use those. I've got to dig up that issue. |

There were 2 issues. Onw which had the rules/profiles of the models and some conversion ideas. The other had rules for the Fornost scenario. |

You could use a twilight ringwraith and paint him something like "Morgomir" from BfME2 http://alaryart.com/directed/Morgomir.jpg |
