Hi everybody
This is my first WIP and it is about my first ever figures, Thorins' company that I bought last year. The pictures may upload but they may not so please forgive me if I am being rubbish. Please say what you think and criticise so I can improve.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy.

Looks pretty neat
Thorin's face is Very nice :yay:

I think Dori is the best of alll of them 8)

Some hopefully contructive critisizm: you've done a good job of highlighting but I felt the highlight colours are a bit too light, perhaps you could add a bit more of the base colour to them to tone them down a tad? :)
its great that you're highlighting so early on though 8)

I like the basing too 8)

good job

Thanks Sid,
Yeah, I agree, white scar probably is to light for highlights.

Hello and welcome, Gandalf the Grey! I think some of your highlighting work is very good (especially Gandalf and Bofur) and your choice of colours are interesting and deviate slightly from the 'official' colour schemes, which is a brave move that is well worth it :)

However, I would suggest you put a bit more effort into your basing. Just covering the base in static grass and adding some pebbles makes them look a bit rushed and can distract from the painting. I suggest covering the bases with sand, adding a few patches of static grass and only one or two pebbles - less is more! Also, you may want to paint the stones a different colour to make them look more natural - i suggest painting them black, then drybrushing with grey :)

Another thing that's worth putting extra effort into is the faces. Unfortunately, they're arguably the hardest part of a model and if you don't have steady hands or weak eyesight they can be very challenging! I suggest you try not to rush them and to give them highlights just as you would a piece of clothing! try thinning your paints so you don't mask any of the detailing; the dwarves faces are notoriously small!

don't be dishearted, I think your models are pretty good for first figured and much better than my first models way back then. Just keep trying new things and experiment: the models should please you first and foremost! Excuse the lengthy reply!

If you do:
Base colour: green (for example)
highlight colour: a mix of green 1:1 white

it should make the highlights look a bit more natural 8)

Thanks monotone
I did rush the base a bit as I wanted to have them finished to play with. I just wasn't brave enough to do eyes as I was afraid that I would make the eyes too comic-like.

Thanks for the advice Sid, I will try it on my next figure.

Yeah, I wouldn't try eyes unless you reallly want them or you're a perfectionist like me haha! Sometimes it helps just to leave the area around the eyes a darker shade, for example by giving the face a wash with a Citadel wash. If you don't have one, I recommend thinning down brown paint with quite a bit of water and painting that into the recesses :)
