Hi! I just gotten in to this hobby and thought it would be nice to display what I´m doing in order to get critics and become a better painter. I have loved Tolkiens books for over a decadde but didn´t knew about this game until recently. After a few days on this forum I start to like the hobby alot! My younger brother gave me some unpainted wood elves he had and some old citadel paints to start of whith, just ordered the MoM from a store that still had it but wanted to get the basics of modeling before I destroy my new fellowship. Hope I get it right uploading the pictures from photobucket and enjoy! (do you probably won´t since I really suck at painting). http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y44 ... 0c3001.jpg http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y44 ... 057ce1.jpg showing basecoat http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y44 ... 4f68b2.png http://i1274.photobucket.com/albums/y44 ... 399d2f.png first highlight |

BTW: Since this is the first mini I ever painted it would be nice if your suggestions on how to improve are basic and not to much in detail so that I will be able to take it in and get better. |

Very good for your first minature! I like the highlighting on the green cloak particularly! Be confident in yourself, practice makes perfect eh? If you do want a tip, you could apply highlights of elf flesh or a similar paint to the face and hands as the elves are a fair looking race. Well done |

They look good, a word of advice for posting, add [img] [/img] around each link and your pictures will display here visibly instead of being links |

Slayeroftrolls: Thanks! Personaly I thought the highlights were a bit to light but whased the cloak yesterday and now i think it's looking ok. Also fixed the face as you suggested and it looks much better! The shop also called and I will get my MoM by friday so I can paint all weekend! Will upload new pic of the elf when I get home from work and try it as RangerOfTheNorth suggested. |

That looks rather good! Maybe, as RangeroftheNorth said, make the skin a bit lighter, but otherwise these are great. |

Done some more. I thought the highlights were a bit to much som I created a wash using chaos black, goblin green and lots of water and washed the cloak (the old paints my brother gave aren´t so many). I don´t like that I get a texture with some paints do I´m watering them bur the paints are rather old. I tried the the suggestion with the skin and it lokks really good I think! But I must concentrate on the detaling and fix the left eye and some other stuff. And here are the other two to be painted. The guy I have started on is leaning of the base one purpose to give him a different pose. I will take the stuff betwen the legs of and hide whats left when I base it. Comments and suggestions on how to improve are most welcome! |

The look great so far. You could neaten up the bits of spashed paint onto other colours with a fine detail brush. With a larger collection of paints and brushes you shall do very well indeed. Keep us updated |

Looking good with the wash. To darken the whole model a tip is to do it really dilute and in 2 coats, one that covers everything and one just into the creases. Also, It's often a good idea to redo the top highlight just along the very edges to help give some of the contrast back after a wash. |

Nicely done with that cloak. You could paint it heavier if you wanted though. |

Got my Mines of Moria box last night! I really wanted to start on the fellowship but i decided to start with a few goblins to try out the new paint and some proper brushes so that I don´t mess up the fellowship with my poor painting skills. Here we go! first goblins primed started with the first layers on some of them bowman after first wash sorry I didn´t got a pic of the troll before I made the first wash. Comments and critics on how to get better or fix them up are most welcome! |

It looks like you need to undercoat your miniatures, some of the grey plastic is showing through. The best way to do this is using a black undercoat spray paint or primer. Games Workshop sell this for £9.50 a can and it lasts an awful long time. Good paintjob on the elf though, what a fantastic start! |

Yeah, I missed a lot when I sprayed them, probably cause I was so exited. I fixed it up before I started and before this day is over I will hopefully have a few goblins and the troll ready! Thanks about the elf! Personally I can se alot of improents now when I painted some more. |

Its been a while since I have been realy busy at work but now I finally have some thing done! First up is the first two goblins I completed and the Cave troll. I´m pretty happy with how they turned out, but I will need some green stuff to fix the arm and hand on the troll. Next up is the two finished goblins: Here are the next two who should be finished soon: And the ones I just primed and will be painting this week. When they are done I will start with the fellowship. Enjoy! |
