Inspired by the WIPs here I decided to share my own humble attempts at the new Goblin Town box set. So far I have done most of the Goblins and some Dwarves. I have mainly used the GW colour scheme with some subtle changes and have based them on rocky bases to match my existing figures and my new terrain mat. I have put them into a gallery here: http://wargamesdiary.wordpress.com/lord-of-the-rings/goblin-town/ |

The fleshtones look really great. I feel like your bases need something to make them less monochromatic. Perhaps some static grass clumps? |

I see what you mean. For the bosses I added some bones but even then they are bleached bone in colour. I wanted to go for a cavern floor look so could not put static grass on the bases. Maybe I should have added some brown rocks too. Another idea I might use for the Goblin Captain is to add some broken planks. With the dwarves it is not so noticeable because they have a more varied colour scheme and fill the base more. |

Looking very good so far! My only suggestion would be making the bases a little darker, because my eyes kinda fix on them. Can't wait to see the rest of the models complete! |

Cracking models, although you'll find Balin wears gloves in the film |

hi i definitely need help with the bases. i will try darkening them with some washes. also maybe i could try different colour rocks or some static grass. will put some examples up hoping for feedback. Also with regards to balin i have taken a great deal of inspiration from the painting guides and images in white dwarf and no gloves for him there. though i have added gloves to thorin because i do think he should have gloves being a main fighting character. |

I have done some more work on the bases which I hope is better but still keeping the cavern theme. |

You have been busy! Lots of painted minis and terrain - very well painted and based. One suggestion on the platforms - try a bit of random variation on the individual planks to break up the colour a bit. It means using a slightly differrent palette of main colour and highlights but it should add a little more interest and colour. If you have say 75% all one palette, and then 2 or 3 variations of 10%/10%/5% scattered randomly among them it would look as if there are even more variants but it should not be much of an overhead in painting terms. And there are good references available while we all wait for the DVD/Blu-ray release: http://www.framecaplib.com/lotrlib/html ... rlr133.htm Well done - hope to see more soon! |

Thanks for the link. Some good images there. The tip on mixing up the colour planks is interesting. I might try that if I ever get round to making up some more using the balsa wood I've bought for that reason. I do find doing that sort of thing challenging though because I'm not a natural artist. |
