Hey Guys I have been away from lotr for about 2 years now and so thought i would get back into it just before the Hobbit!! So basically I work in a hobby shop and decided that I would make a small display of orcs to display in the window. This is where I have got so far, the first orc is unfinished and there is more to come! I got the scheme for the orc from a picture in this months White dwarf. Logan |

Very nice! And yes, how did you do the snow? Seeing as I'm completely snowed in I think a few snow bases would be appropriate! |

Hi thanks for the interest! It is Woodland scenics snow, its £7 for a huge tub and alot better than gw. The process I use is to mix the powder with 50\50 pva and vallejo matt varnish. I mix it to the consistency of chewing gum and easy to apply. I havent got to this stage on mine but by adding gloss varnish around the edges it gives the look of melting snow and if the finish is too flat then I put satin varnish on to make it have the sheen of real snow. Thanks! Logan |

That's a fantastic display! Don't forget to post pics when you have finished all of the orcs. Also, thanks for telling where to get good snow. I have the GW snow, but I don't really like it. |

Great looking display piece. Will there be anything apart from orcs? (I am thinking about trolls and other evil troops). |

yeah I have used gw's snow before and not been impressed! Well my collection as it stands is 48 unpainted mordor orcs.... but I am eyeing up some more evil things (ringwraith) that I can add... Should have some more finished by tomorow so I will post pics of them! |

Nice. Its a bit bland though. Could do with some more filling of Orcs, perhaps a full warband and captain |

Hi!! Sorry been quite busy so i havent got alot done. But here are my first 3 'testers'. I am not fully happy with them yet but I like the spearman, I am still experimenting with my colours and technique. Any comments for improvement and criticism welcomed gladly!!!!! Thanks, Logan |

They look very good, but I'm not sure whether I like the idea of red armour for Orcs. It seems altogether to much like they pay attention to what they wear, if you see what I mean - an Orc would be happy to have armour, let alone fuss about the colour. |

What colours did you use for the orc? |

Really like the orcs and the diorama! I kinda like the colour of the armour for the orcs although I agree maybe it looks too 'clean'. Needs something to give it that battered feel but not sure what you can do with the copper colour. |

Yeah they look good. Though im not a fan of bronze armour on Orcs. Perhaps a mixture of silver and bronze orc armour? |

hello! Sorry I have been really busy with school and Uni applications so havent had any time to do any more orcs at the moment @TheCow the skin is Vallejo pastel green, with Athonian camoshade wash, pretty simple. I will try a dulled down bronze/silver mix with some weathering and battle damage and see how that comes out, although I think I wont be getting many more done when I have my hands on the new Hobbit stuff.... Thanks! Logan |

Hi Logan, you may want to try some brown washes over the orc armor. That should tone it down without too much fuss. I like your skin tone colors. Rob |
