Hi there, this is my firts WIP topic. I introduce my Mordor army. I will use them tomorrow, at a tournament here in Budapest, Hungary.
This army is not ready yet. I finished the painting almost 98%. I have to work a lot with the bases and movment trays.
This is my 1000 points army list:
-6C morannon orc (Gothmog)
-4C morannon orc (drummer)
-Troll
-5C mordor orc (taskmaster)
-3C black guard of barad dur (cap, bann)
-5C warg rider (taskmaster, hornblower)
I put shields everywhere, where it is possible.

Lets see the head of my army:

I build a special base for Gothmog, I really like it. I put a cutted head there to represent his cruelty. After the matt varnish I put some shine varnish to the bloody parts. I really enjoyed to paint his funny and sick face.

The mordor troll. Once I counted my MT warriors, and I found one without arm. Than the idea came, to use it as dead. I used glossy varnish here to. I put blod on the ground and on the troll's sword. I like morbid.

Image

Image

This is the 6C formation. I put a banner there, cause Gothmog counts as Army banner. Here I used morannon and mordor orc too. The color shame is same, so the difference is not conspicuous. Now the bases arent same, but I will standardize them. The flag is home-made.

Image

This is the 4C morannon formation with drummer. The drummer is an urukhai. I dont collect Isengard, but I have this figure. Originally it was a battering ram carrier, and I converted it. Usually I use it to my Black guard formation, but not now. I also have a converted orc hornblower, but it is not ready yet, and I dont have more time currently.

This is my mordor orc team. There is the converted taksmater, its base is not finished. I use brown colors to mordor orcs, sometime a little blue or red too.

This is my favorite formation, the black guards. I convert them from mordor orcs and some urukhai. I used a lot of green stuff and plastic. I cut all the shields one by one, and the swords too. Im not a sculp master, as you can see on the capes and armour. The painting took a long time, I had to paint all these "mordor logos". Anyway, I love this Darth Maul color shame.

Wargs! I really like these dogs. All the wargs are finished. 3 rider is also finished, as Sharku too. I use Sharku here as taskmaster. Im working on a taskmaster figure too, but I dont have time now to finish it. 6 other rider is not ready, I just drybrush some color to them. I bought some used wargs, and there were some damages, like lost weapons. I replaced those with WH dark elf bitzes.
Once I bought a lot of dark elf bitz, those are excelent for converting. There are 5 cavlary movement trays, 2 of them are absolutly finished, the other are need some grass and bushes.

So here it is, my Mordor army. It took many time to finish, I did not count. But Im really proud now. I have a plan for an 1500 points army, with fell beast ands siege bow batteries, that will be the next step.

I tried to paint all the eyes and teeth, cause that is the point, when a figure become more alive. I used speed paint technique.
1)Usually black basecoat
2)Paint the main colors(6-7-8 color), use a little bit highlight drybrush
3)Paint small details, eyes teeths, belt buckles.
4)Army painter quickshade midtone, and somtimes my own black wash especially for armour.
5)paint the base's edge with brown
6) make the base(sand, highlight on sand, rock-grass-bushes....)
7) Matt varnish

Now I didnt do all these points, but I sprayed all of them with matt warnish. I will continue the bases later. I hope you enjoyed my article, Im sorry for my grammatical mistakes.

Nice army! 8)

The troll is my favourite, great painting on him. I also think you did a really good job on the Black Guard conversions, well done :)

I would not call your army huge, in fact I think it's quite small, but I must say it looks awesome, the work you put into that.. Ever since you said you converted some orcs into black guards, I've been fascinated to see them, I was worried that they wouldn't look uniform enough, but the shileds, swords, skin, cloacks and brilliany colour scheme have helped you to pull it off.

Yes, I used an egg holder's box for this, I cut all the shields and swords with nail scissors, I will show you soon.

Like this:

Egg holder also good for 40K terrian.

I made this a year ago. I dont play 40K, I build this for money. Here you can find the whole project: https://picasaweb.google.com/112456808824539717337/40KScennery

Mordor armies should always be HUGE.

I like a target rich environment...

BTW, it is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. (Arrrrrrrr!)

I'd just like to say.

Warg Riders have drummers not hornblowers. (orcs never use horns in WOTR)

You are right, but I think if someone rides, the horn is much more usefull then drum. How could you drum on a fast warg? Thats insane. And I prefer the horn more.

Anyway, I promised the Black Guard tutorial, so here it :

Green stuff, plastic. Then black coat. Boltgun metal and tin bitz. Black wash, etc... Its easy to make, but it takes a lot of time to cut the shields and swords. The black guard signal is also a hard thing. If you have any questions, ask.
