Post subject: | Harad Army Finished! 07-Feb-2013 Mumak, Fellbeast, Hasharin. |
Hi all, I was going to do WIP shots as I went, but I knew it would take me FOREVER to do, so I just put the WIPS all up on the blog (13 posts in total). If you want to see it all come together feel free to check it out starting here: (http://simbattleboard.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/stampy-mcstamper.html) I scored a cheap, but not very well put together/painted Mumak for cheap on eBay quite cheaply (did I mention it was cheap?). So I had to do some work on it to make it presentable. I didn't go all-out so there are still some lines, I've yet to get my greenstuff technique to a good enough level for that stuff (also I have so limited time at the moment it took me a month to do what I did!) Anyway, I'm super proud of it and wanted to share that if someone like me who only gets a couple hours a week to work on things can do it, so can all of you out there who have a Mumak but don't think you can do it - YOU CAN! The back story is my Haradrim are attached to one of the Numenorians mentioned by Tolkien who tried to get "answers from the stars". Since Tolkien was keen on astronomy (and so am I) I've decided that my clan are inspired by Scorpio (hence the stars on some of the motif work) and their Black Numenorian stargazer has seen signs in the heavens related to Orion (referenced numerous times by Tolkien) so are heading north to battle! Anyway, enough blather, here are some pics (you can see Scorpio on the banner on this side): Left side: Right side: There's a sort of easel with the constellation Orion on it replacing a support that was missing from the model: And here's the scorpion on the other side of the banner (and you can also see the scorpion as the warpaint on the Mumak's head): Not sure if the little pictures show enough detail to pick that I had to custom make the tail from greenstuff, the base matches my board with lava and each tier of the howdah is slightly lighter blue than the one below. Anyway, now I have the task of painting up all the crew! The final blog post in the series have these and more pics in clickable high res (http://simbattleboard.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/lonely-mumak.html). Thanks for looking! |

Very good job, a new dimension for the mumak and nice colors. It's very interesting and the painting is so good. |

That looks incredible simmuskhan! Fantastic job on an impressive model - will you be doing any Mumak vs. Mumak battles? |

That is a lovely emblem you have designed. The blue is very vivid. I'm not sure I would want to be sat on top of a heavy beast walking over such a thin crust above molten lava though! |

I missed this the first time around - it really stands out from the run of the mill Harad colour palette. Very bold, well painted - I like it! |

!Blue!! Very nice colouring simmuskan. Not sure they have the same stars in Middle-Earth but the them sounds better than GW's 'Abrakhan' nonsense. (I do like them though) |

Thanks all =) GothmogtheWerewolf wrote: Not sure they have the same stars in Middle-Earth but the them sounds better than GW's 'Abrakhan' nonsense. (I do like them though) Thanks Gothmog =) I've read LOTS of articles that link many of the constellations and stars in Tolkien to ours. There are some that seem different but others the same. I've just extrapolated to Scorpio. Certainly Orion is identified. Here's an extract of just one such interesting article: http://muse.jhu.edu/journals/tolkien_studies/summary/v007/7.larsen.html And the wiki page has a brief summary too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle-earth_cosmology My wife picked on me (light-heartedly) about how long I spent researching this! |
