Hi all, just wanted to share my latest =) Got a nice ebay metal cave troll and painted it up. Soooo much better than my old plastic one, I'm amazed at how much easier it is for me to paint now that we have washes! (Maybe I'm a better painter this many years on too?) WIP shots etc. on the blog (http://simbattleboard.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/next-up.html), but more importantly... here he is finished: |

You need more transition between the colours. |

Nice painting, though I don't like the paint scheme. I really don't like the fleshy colours that GW painted their troll with, I much prefer something like TheBucklandBrewer's version. More grey, less skin colour.....I also prefer a green tint to the back of the troll rather than blue, as in the books it mentions green.....But hey, it's your figure. |

Thanks guys =) @horde lord - LOL! @avenger - yeah, I did my other troll with greener tones, but that was when I had more time! Fleshy is not only different for me but also quick and easy! Can't wait to get him out whacking things with his "brother" troll now! |

I like this model alot, but Horse Lord has a point, abit of belnding the grey into the flesh, a couple of hours work would improve it, when you look at the model the 2 tone of grey & flesh clash to much. Only saying this as it always helps to have CC. |

The type of blending of the flesh to the darker areas could be achieved very quickly - water down some chaos black (if its still called that lol) and just feather it from the flesh towards the darker area - plenty of water in the mix - start light you can always add more paint as you go and shade darker as you move closer to the darker parts of the model. In my opinion I like it the way it is. |

I like CC, as long as both Cs are included (since I'm not an expert, nor entering a competition!) =) Yeah, I see the look you're after Harfoot with the extra blending, but I actually prefer the look of the stronger division personally. I did like the quick and easy feathering idea Dead Marsh Spectre. I am really pressed for time at the moment (hyperactive one year old!) so went for a little Badab Black just to break up the smoothness of the edges without compromising the colour too much. I think one difficulty is my photography under a bright white light with the camera held too close! Anyway, hopefully you can see the edges aren't as sharp anymore in terms of shape, but maintain the look I like of the sharper colour contrast between the dark and light... Thanks all, and I really love these forums for the friendliness and range of skills and talents. Not many other places on the internet where average joes can post and get the wisdom of some of you genius painters! I'd love to see your cave trolls if you want to share them! I've got a Burdhur (or however he's spelt) to do soon and would love inspiration =) |
