Started working on my Minas Tirith force. Been years since I've painted but I found it was easy to pick back up again, but I have relatively low painting standards (I don't bother with eyes and teeth for example...). The pictures are enormous and really show a lot of my derpitude... but oh well. Let's just say that I'm proud of them. And please keep in mind that most of these were done with paints that had been glommed up in the pots for years that I had to rescue with liberal amounts of water, patience and misery. I've only recently been able to get ahold of some new paints.... so hopefully future models will look nicer. Overview of total force: Force 2: Tower Guard: Will post more pics as I paint! |

I like it! I hate to paint these guys, I have lots and lots of them, but only 2 are painted quickly. I wish I could force myself to paint a company of them though (some day I will!)... Ther're looking great Colosseum, and it doesn't matter actually what standard you put to yourself. If the end-result is satisfying, and you're proud of it yourself, then you can only conclude you did a great job on it! It's not up to others to decide for you how far into detail you should go. But if you're open to improvement, we can always advise things if you would like so And if so, I'd start to advise you to look out for Badab Black wash, to give the metal parts a wash so it gives it a bit of shaded and darker look in the deeper recesses. Keep it up mate! Oh, and about the paintpots, heh, yeah, I know that feeling. I once got a load of old pots from a friend of which I had to recover most. I does take patience (and cursing and broken skewers and dirty fingers) to recover them. Keep 'em wet though, cause once they were dry, they will dry out again much faster. If I'm not bothered with a pot which is getting dry, I just cover the top-layer of the paint with a little water, so only the top-surface is wet and completely under water. It will prevent it from further drying out... (but that's it actually, it won't make the recovering easier later on). |

Whooo good to see another Gondor army building up. The painting looks fine, and for line troops I don't bother with really small details either. |

Touched up my officer, who's now known as Captain Hunt... He will later be receiving a slung horn and maybe a bow if I can manage. |

Nice paint, but I suggest some wash, cause its not perfect yet. I prefer Army painter's quick shade dark tone. |

Never said it was perfect or that I was trying to achieve perfection? |

I was joking. For example if you try the quick shade, you will see lines on the faces, on the helmets and armors. Then the models will be better. Now the surface is similar to a toy. Example: Oh, and never try the dipping techique. Use a brush, that will be ok. Put it on, wait a half minute, then remove the dropps what you dont need. There are surplus usually at the bottom of the shields or capes. |
