I accidentally began a seperate thread for this, but I'll try and get it removed and keep all my mini painting WIPs here... Again, my first stage of Tom for this month's challenge... Stage two... And Tonight... I'm quite disappointed with the shot actually... as it looks quite a bit more even and smooth with my eye, but then, perhaps my eye is flawed... anyways, it's the first long grass attempt for me... and I tried my best to stick close to the traditional description from FotR for Tom. I am tempted to wait till tomorrow and take some shots in sunlight, but I'll see. |

Nice job EverPilgrim. The base looks great though a drybrush of bleach bone sand would make it look better. The mini as a whole looks good, I love the boots, but there are some minor details that need fixing. You should use a old brush to brush away the plant material in the cloak, see second to last picture. From the looks of it you drybrushed the cloak, evident through the blue patches on the tunic and the look of the cloak itself. I would suggest you water down some of the blue and apply a few glazes on the cloak to smoothen out some of the roughness. Sorry for the harshness but I'm overcritical by nature. |

Hey thanks so much... I wanted to stay true to the colours... and I tried my best on the base... it's encouraging to hear you think it's good. |

Overall it's a very good job. Maybe some further-away pictures next time, I personally find that what looks good close up looks better at arm's distance. For example most of my miniatures would fail a close inspection but from a few inches or a couple of feet away they're fairly striking to me. |

Hey guys... Okay, so I go in around the eyes with a very watery solution of the highlight skin colour to clean them up a tad, and also went over the cloak with the a thin layer of the highlight blue, along with a shot of blue wash after. I think he has turned out better than I expected... and appreciate your guy's enouragement and input on that... |

Great job Leon . The cloak looks a lot better as do the eyes which look great. My math teacher likes to say, and many others have as well, "you reap what you sow," and you have. Best of luck in the paint-off and in the continuing development of your skills may God bless you. |

@ DLoEL - Well thanks... I was still worried about the coat brush strokes... but the suggested glaze and then the wash smoothed it out some. I'm glad you noticed the eyes too... I didn't want to overwork them for fear of making them worse, but my wife bought me a really great super fine brush and it made it easier to get into the corners "quietly" without gunking it up ... my hand control sucks right now... I'd love to get to outlining the eyes... that sort of thing... I was hoping he looked bright and cheerie in the eyes like he should .... @Longbottom - Thanks again... think you could get away with say'n "Hey Tom! Nice coat! It really brings out your eyes!" without people thinking you were wierd? @Anduril - I did need to rework it pretty good, so glad it appears better to you too. |
