Ok Guys, exactly as the title says...

First, the Heroes

Dark Marshal Front

That's all my heroes for now :), I'm working on a squad of 3 Black Numenoreans at the minute, they should be done & posted by the end of the day :), as always, comments & whatnot are accepted & enjoyed :-D

And one last thing, i was thinking for the bases, to do a kind of ash wasteland kinda thing...like in Mordor :), how could this be achieved? Thanks

I really like your black marshall :) Did you use some kind of green coloer on the coat?(but maybe its just my ooooold computer)
you could use those little stones for the base...paint them black and than highlight them with grey. for more details use hay...this miniature-hay.
if you use it on just one spot it looks really good.
(i think the knee protection is a little like the one of witch-king am i right?)

good painting! as for the base, an easy way is to glue sand/gravel onto the base, paint black then drybrush codex grey, then fortress grey.

And, if you want lava, leave out small areas of the base from the sand, and paint with PVA, then, once dry, paint with reds, oranges and bright yellow.

Looking good buddy
Cheers

Thank you for the comments guys 8)

@Mrbackwards, must be your old computer, or a quirk of the flash, that coat has no green on it anywhere , just loads & loads & loads of ink :D, doesn't look too bad though... kinda oily black

@Elros, Yeah, i was thinking of something like that... then i found this :)
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catal ... rod210006a

I'm not too sure about that though... perhaps a mixture of grey sand & that?, also, lava effects would be nice... might have a go... :)

Also, I've finished the Black Numenoreans, i'll post pics later :)

And there we are :), i've still got another 3 to do, as well as the mounted Dark Marshal (who should be sprayed sometime tommorow).
Also, how would you guys rate my painting skills?, seriously?

Below Tabletop?
Tabletop?
Slightly above TT
Master (lol, doubt it's that...)

If someone could also answer the question (regarding a mixture of burnt grass & grey sand) for the bases, that would be a great help :)

Enjoy guys :)

hi,
its me again :)

i'd rate your painting skills pretty good but i have 2 things you could think about.
1:maybe use a bigger variaty f sword s(one whole boltgun metal painted sword with highlights isn't even that bad :-D
2: maybe try to differ various cloth layers on the model. paint the lower ones 'oily' and the upper ones dull.otherwise it looks (from my personal point of view) strange
no criticism just a suggestion

now to the base:
ive got two links for you
1: http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/kb.php ... icle&k=359
2: http://www.one-ring.co.uk/phpBB2/kb.php ... icle&k=409

i think number one would look really god on mordor minis if you'd add some burned grass (as you've posted it) because at mordor everything has to be kinda dead or rotten. so no bright colors, just black grey and some little dead/burned grass spots
greetings, yanic

Ok, i've finished my mounted Dark Marshal :), after the can of citadel spray almost killed it...

However, it's already dark, so i'll post pics tommorow :)

Oh, and Happy New Year 8)

I'm no master judge. "Tabletop" is also a very generic term, different people consider tabletop to be different things. I think "tabletop" is a 6.5+ on CoolMiniOrNot. Others say a 4+ is tabletop. So it's hard to say.

As for the specific minis, I quite like them! However, you may want to straighten the blades & hilts on the swords (mainly far left one and middle one) 8)

Great painting, they look nice. :yay:

But I think you should make your highlights a little more smooth 8)

Ok everyone, as promised, here are the pics of my mounted Dark Marshal

Apologies if the pics are blurry/not great :/, i'm not too good w/ my camera, due to shaky hands...

I'm particularly pleased with how his cloak & horse turned out... I wanted both to be black, but both to look different..., I did his cloak a kind of 'oily' black, and his horse a dusty-grey/black, looks different to me, dont know about you :)

I also wanted to get a horse that didn't look 'demonic' like the GW one, after all, it IS only a horse :), so i simply did it really dark brown...

The base is yet to be done (i'll do my other Black Numenoreans before i do the bases ;) ), but i was thinking of some kind of lava flow somewhere on his base... or a lava 'pool'... not too sure which, or where :D (*note, I would be grateful if there was a lava tutorial someone could post for me :), also, how would i do it from black, so far, i've only ever seen it done from white :/)

C&C are welcome as usual ;)

It is hard to see. You could try placing the camera on something and set a timer so it wouldn't be blurry. The model looks quite shiny. If you are giving it a wash you should make sure that it is all mixed up and don't use too much or it will make the mini shiny. If it is the flash I would suggest you not use the flash but instead a couple of lamps in order to cut the shininess.

Thanks, the cloak is shiny :), it's supposed to be shiny, as i wanted an oily black cape... however, i'm beginning to have second thoughts (shame really...after i've done 5 guys like that  ), does it look good on evil models? i.e nazgul & black Numenoreans?

Also, i might have a go at re-doing the armour, and washing it again, just i keep slipping up and putting slightly too much chainmail on...

Perhaps i could do Boltgun metal, wash w/ black ink, then simply highlight w/ boltgun again...? How would that look :)

thanks

Don't use a flash.

Take the pictures outside on an overcast day.

Buy a cheapo camera tripod.

Use the timer. :D

Finally, basing a model makes the thing complete and the contrast in earth tones on a base and the other tones on the model brings the whole thing together. It gives the eye more to look at and small flaws in the model paint job become harder to spot.
