So, finally I got up some pictures on my computer, and I figured it was time to make a WIP.

This is currently the entire army... But hopefully not much longer! I expect another 8 to arrive to my mailbox tomorrow.

Let me introduce the three Khazad Guardian brothers;

Sorry about the lightning thingy... Kinda blended all the metal colours together... *shrugs*

The painting looks good, but the pictures make it a bit hard to tell. I do really like the blue color you used, as well as the copper armor. I'd suggest you thin your paints a little more, but they're really starting to look good. 8)

Alright, that's it, I'm getting myself a good camera!

Thin down as in... water?

Yes. :)

Just adding a little water to your paints can go a long way towards making your models look better. It'll lessen there coverage, but in the end will give a better appearence.

Keep up the good work. 8)

I like the color scheme Nurin, my only thing is that the blue axe hafts (handles) look kind of strange. Are they supposed to be wrapped in blue leather? :? Other than that, really cool.

I quite like the blue handles.

Thinning down your paints would help.

I Like your colour scheme. Keep it up. 8)

Time for some quick tips.

1. Firstly, you don't need a better camera, the one you have at the moment is more than sufficient - I would change the backing however; this can be done by getting a sheet of white paper and placing it behind the figures.

2. In terms of the axe-shafts, in order to mimic the appearance of leather, I would free-hand some diagonal lines, so it would look like there are straps of leather binding the axe-shaft.

3. Leave the eyes black - the point of the facemasks is to inspire fear and intimidation - that is lost when you look at the Dwarves and their baby-blues :P

4. Don't use Flash. Avoid it at all costs - adjust the brightness levels instead.

5. Your metallics lack definition. Give them a wash, and highlight with whatever you're using + Mithril Silver.

6. Shade the cloth - it's too one-dimensional. At the very least just combine whatever you used for the blue, and mix it with black, water it down, and apply. Then re-highlight using the base colour.

7. For blond hair, begin with a bestial brown basecoat, highlight with snakebite leather OR kommando khaki, and add bleached bone to the first highlight layer - your blond is a canary yellow, which is completely unnatural.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for the c&c. =)

Though, whoeaver said they wrapped the handles in leather? It's supposed to be blue-painted wood. =P

I'll see what I can do about the beards and shades and stuffs, I painted them bubonic brown, and on both models I managed to fill all "cracks" so I tried to wash down some black, and highlight with Sunburst yellow... The Sunburst yellow is broken or something, the beards went green! So... Yeah, with the black wash and mainly having just bubonic brown, the beards looks rather... funny. =P

Alright, I fixed the blonde beards, but I didn't find any bleached bone, so I mixed some vomit brown and skull white... It went abit too wet, so it got a rather rough highlight, so I washed with some snakebite leather.

Looks better than before atleast, thanks for the tip! =)

I'll see if I can get a picture of it.

Instead of a white sheet of paper you might want to use a colour sheet wich goes for example from light blue\white to very dark blue\black.
Just send me an Pm with your email adress and i will send you one in the colour you want.

I think I'll use a white paper, thank you Aqan. =)

And Drumastic, I most often do like this; I spray the models together, then I paint the tunicas and chainmail on all of them at once, but not very detailed, just to get started on them all. On those three, I'd guess it took about 30 minutes after the spray paint had dried, to paint the sleeves and the lower border of the tunic, and drybrushing the chainmails.

After that I take them one by one, adding the copper, the beard, the hands and the belt and such, then going all over it again shading and highlighting, and lining. I'm not sure of the exact time, and when I paint I often watch a movie in the background, so I'm not fully consentrated unless I get to details such as the eyes or hard-to reach spots.

Those three took 2 days to finnish, and I sat about 12 hours by the working desk, so about 8 hours half-attended work a day on them. Then with details, and stuff, I'd guess about 6-7 hours per dwarf in total.

Quite nice work Nurin, though improvements can still be made...and not just in the painting section! *cough* photography *cough*

Looking a those pics again, all I can say is water down that paint. it is way too thick, and use watered down washes. It will help the overall appearance of the models.
