NetrixX: I didn't use the same method as the huntsman, I've kind of abandoned that method for now...The khazad armour was painted as follows:
Base with a mix of Boltgun Metal and Chaos Black. just enough black was added to darken the metal.
Dry brush lightly with Boltgun Metal.
Wash using Badab Black.
And finally a light dry brush of Mithril Silver.
Hope that helps, if you have any other questions ask away or pm me, no worries.
ste271276: The grey ? The only grey on these miniatures was dark grey mixed in with the base colours for their clothes, green and blue. I added more green/blue to that mix towards mid tones and then bleached bone towards higlights. Perhaps it is as Gandalf the Grey pointed in his post, they look grey from a distance but you can see the colour when zoomed in?...
Gandlaf the Grey: Well spotted, I felt the same as I was painting. I was a little more enthusiastic about painting the archers than the khazad and I find plastic much easier to work with than counterparts, its flat and smooth with even surfaces and all individual forms on a miniature are simply defined. In contrast, the detail on the metal Khazad makes it harder for me to paint, like the creases and recesses are generally deeper and the raised parts can be extremely thin which I find hard to blend on. plus, theres always tiny irregularities in metal, it just feels more messy than plastic and I guess that seeps into the painting or something. I'll do a little more work on the Khazads beards, perhaps the banner bearers too and make a better effort with Durin and Mardin, hopefully recapture the soft and subtle look of the archers.
