Yep, I saw a cd in the trash, and off I went. I was using some satin varnish as the water effects, but it cracked and clouded and looked terrible.
So I ripped out the water part and am re-doing it. I think it might have cracked/clouded becuase I put on too thick a layer. I also had some bubbles appear as it was drying, I think that's becuase I had sand underneath and air got cought under the varnish and didn't surface as bubbles for a while. I am trying again, this time with a smooth bottom, and I will take it slowly with thinner layers... :)

I finished the wood elf. I like how he came out, C&C welcome.
I also did a pike repair on an uruk-pikeman. At the end is a picture of the swamp as it is now. I am trying to get a nice smooth bottom with the glue, and then I will paint over it and try the water-effects again.....

The swamp is officially a no go. Whatever I tried I wouold get ugly bubbles and such, so it will be something else. But, I did start on a new project. I've been wanting to make some dwarf/goblin mine workings for a while now, but never had the material. And, seeing as I didn't really feel like spending ~$20 on some Balsam, I just sorta let that dream die. That is, until my Grandpa gave me some random balsam strips that he was going to burn. :D They were too thin to use as is, but that wasn't going to stop me. I glued two of the strips together to get a nice rectangular piece of lumber. This is what I have so far. C&C welcome.

You should try roughening them up a bit with a pen and the backside of your knife!!

You bet! I've done some roughening up on some of the bits you haven't seen, but I will go over the whole thing and make it better textured yet.
*edit*
Finished the texturing and decided to paint up the main part before I glued the top platform on. This is just the first base coat, it will look much better after a couple of dry brushes.

Thanks BotWT.
It's amazing what a couple of drybrushes can do.....I will cut the chain as well at some point, I think there should be enough left over to make another platform. I hope I can make one more with a chain, and then probably one more without. Three seems like a good number.

Thanks guys.
I realised I hadn't posted any pics with figure in it for scale. So here's a couple of pictures, they were dark - so I lightened them - so the colours aren't real, but at least you can see the goblins!

Excellent work, very realistic, those Goblins (and Goblin Prowler I think) look very happy to be on it, and lucky they are.

I thought at least 2 were, good conversion. Nice elf, the eyes look less creepy on this one I think.

.....And I'm back. Started work on another piece of cd terrain, as well as working on cleaning up some haradrim. I'm also enlarging my hill troll's club, it was way to puny before. The skewer in the terrain is the trunk of a tree, it will get some sponge once it's painted up. I had to make the rock pile around the skewer because I needed something to drill into that would hold up the trunk..... :-D

Nice stuff! Love that mining equipment, I'd steal that if I lived nearby. I tried it once and my effort was nowhere near as cool!
