12 orc bowmen finished two days ago.
The next 12 are at the ready in my painting cupboard. Bases are done on most. All are undercoated.
I find it quicker and easier doing lots of the same model at the same time so the first lot were the ones with helmets and the next lot of 12 are the ones without.
I'm happier with my newest lot as I'm using a wash of black paint on the cloth and flesh but Nuln oil on the metal. This keeps the cloth and flesh matt while allowing the metal a little bit of a shine - albeit a grimy one.

Current finished plastic orc total is now 202. :)

I've also been working on my RISK board, which is coming along nicely. And my mind has started to turn again towards my will-it-ever-be-truly-finished? project. He sits on display and stares down at me, his teeth gleaming menacingly.

Real work has started once more for me now that the summer break is over. Hopefully I'll have some hobby time on Mondays and Tuesdays so I should get through a few models. However, today I need to crack on with a load of paperwork to keep my superiors sweet.

How did you divide the territories on your board? It looks different to the normal RISK layout. Looks great!

The RISK board has been divided so that it is more geographically correct. However, all the territories have/will have the same names and border the same number of territories as the official game. It looks like I have divided the board into more territories but that is because some of them have rivers running through them. It is still one territory, the two or three parts joined by bridges.

The bridges are the only real difference as there will be more of them on this board. The only real effect of this will be when a card is taken that allows bridges to be blocked. It simply means that the player will have more choice of which to block. Nevertheless, it won't be allowed to block bridges within the same territory.

I've just ordered 5 Schleich bald eagle models to convert into great eagles. They cost £3.89 each. Bargain! When I get converting, I'll post some pictures. I reckon these'll be great.

Over the past couple of months, I've been hacking through my backlog.

Approximately 100 Mordor orcs, 50 Morannon orcs and 110 goblins.

I'm currently working on the last 30 goblins in the backlog and then I'll move on to the uruks.

: )

That could be arranged.
Some time over the holiday I'll take some pictures.
I'd also like to photograph some of my other finished models as huge armies.

Yes, which shows four things.

1. I'm mad.

2. I've been painting miniatures for a long time.

3. I like uruks.

4. My wife is far more understanding than I give her credit for.

'enough figures' does not compute

Enslaved by Sauron, Saruman MUST build an army worthy of Mordor!

I'll keep taking the med's.

I have moderated my original aim, which was to have 1000 uruks! Anyone got 300 they don't want?
NOT Ancient Greek warriors!

Hmm I do have a lot of Uruks I was collecting for a helms deep diorama. I'm not sure I will ever do it.
I will have to count up but there could be 1-200 hundred, some painted to table top standard, some untouched.

That's a kind offer. Thank you. Please send them to...

Actually, I'd better crack on with my other armies. The uruks are nearly complete now. Just a couple of battering rams to go and I'll have 700 uruk hai warriors in the army. Unfortunately they aren't all painted to the same scheme, which annoys me, as I did some in a rush about 6 or 7 years ago. However, most of them have the same paint scheme.

Battering ram idea.
I think I'm probably going to stick the uruks carrying the ram onto standard mini bases instead of the large flat one supplied in the packet. Hopefully, there'll be enough room between the front and rear warrior to fit another uruk.

The base that comes in the pack isn't quite big enough to fit all the minis' bases on it properly, which bothers me. I'm wondering if it will look better on usual bases as the minis will tie in better with others around them. Also, other models will be standing at the same level.

Oh, of course, I've pinned the siege uruks to the ram so that they will be joined strongly enough not to need the large base as a means of holding the whole model together.

I'll let you know how I get on.

This evening, I'll add a few tufts of static grass to the remaining 21 plastic uruks to finish them off.

Christmas Easterlings
These are my treat. Red and gold for Christmas.
I only have about 25 metals painted so far, so these will make a nice small army.
