Excellent work on these, the one thing that always strikes me with your work is how the miniatures look like they've been plucked out of scene from the films (if you get my meaning).

That is quite the compliment Phil. Much appreciated man 8)

Cheers for the great comments guys.

I'm taking a quick breather from the relentless sea of green and gold to paint up an unreleased orc drummer for meeeeee and a Bolg ft and mtd for a clients birthday. Makes a nice change to only have 2 or 3 models in front of me. (there are another 21 looking at me from not too far away tho :o )

Lovely, as ever. I can see how the choice of colours would give doubts, but they all came together very nicely indeed, it really works.

How's the painting on Thorongil coming along?

That's quite the pity, although it's a good thing you're taking your time with him. Very much looking forward to seeing him painted up; only know him from unpainted or not entirely in focus painted pics...
Sincerly hope you'll find a way to work on him soon!

By the way, I don't suppose you keep a tally of all the Elves you've ever painted? :P

Perfect! Thanks, Kev.

If you kiss it, it might turn into Arwen.

Two questions about your Rivendel knights (fisrt of all say that are incredible and very far from my paint level, but I try :-X ).

You had made the cloaks with Glazes?
And the metals the same?
It seems to me that the cloaks are vey light grey-brown with siucesive glazes of brown-orange, and the metals are something like silver (Vhainmail or mithril) with light glazes of orange and brown. Is this right?

Also whcih greys had you used as a base for the horses? (I have a big range of Vallejo MC and all the GW greys, is not a problem to find something similar :) 9

Thanks in advance for your help.

@Mirva. the cloaks were crazy to paint, such huge flat areas. I will try and write a quick guide for how i painted them.

Start with a basecoat mix of 80% Vallejo Model Colour (VMC) U.S Dark Green and 20% Vallejo Game colour (VGC) Cold Grey

Ink with watered down brown wash just to give the recess' some definition.

Add a tiny amount of bleached bone to original bascoat mix and around 10 drops of glaize medium. The paints needs to be almost transparent. knock the excess paint of your brush and highlight the cloak. increase amount of bleached bone to the mix for succesive highlights - make sure each time you add paint to the mix that you add at least another 5 drops of medium.

1 drop VGC Beasty brown to 10 drops medium and highlight the bottom quarter or so of the cloak - try not to let the mix pool at all at this stage on the model. Add orange to the mix highlighting further and further towards the bottom of the cloak with each stage.

A finishing wash of extrememly watered down brown ink can be applied

Horses were painted using VGC Cold Grey, VGC Stonewall Grey, Black and white. Lots of glaize medium.

Armour painted with mix of 80% GW shining gold (Ghenna gold will do with additional chainmail mixed in ) and 20% GW Chainmail. washed brown with a tiny amount of green ink added and lots of water. Increasing amounts chainmail added to original mix for successive highlights.

:-) Nearly finished Bolg ft and mtd
Thanks for the great comments.

Had this sitting around for a while now and thought I'd take the chance to use him as the only model besides my golden Demon entry which I paint for myself in the whole of 2014. Wow!! thats a long time huh?

Anyway here he is, The Unreleased Orc Drummer. Fantastic sculpt. I remain clueless as to why this was never released.

More pictures in The Dead Marshes Ha feels good to still be able to say that!

Thanks for looking :)

Good job you didn't take a backlog reduction oath.
Nice steady job on this Kev, lovely sculpt that I agree, should have been in mass production.
