Your progress is good Werner and its nice to see a concerted effort at improving, you are heading in the right direction.
One thing to look at it is being extreme with your highlighting and shading. By doing this you will get the better transition you are seeking. You are thinning all you paints now so that is a great step to take, at least double water to paint and having a very little amount on your brush. I carry enough paint that it almost dries as I complete the stroke.
This obviously means I need to do a lot more coats but its the balance between a better finish and speed.

I discovered a flow improver (from Winson&Newton), which I now use instead of water because it doesn't change the consistency of the colour as much as water. Thus, it's easier to work with, at least for me.

Btw, Narzug looks good.

I've changed my last highlight/layer method on my Goblin Warriors.
Instead of layering the whole skin as final stage, I did a highlight:

Version 1.0 and 2.0 together:

I much prefer the highlighted version and I hope you do. You are heading in the right direction and its now up to you as to how far you go. If you want to go further then the offset of this is it will take more time.
The highlight stage you have applied will obviously be the final one you apply but you will need to made mixes of the base coat up to the highlight. To start with you will do maybe 2-3 mixes that will be progressively lighter. The lighter the colour the nearer the highest point it goes leaving the final highlight for the very highest point.

I also prefer the highlighted version. Thanks a lot for your comments and tips. I want to get a better painter.
I already did a 1:1 mix with the basecoat and highlight colours. I think for the Goblin Warriors I'm going to leave it so but for the captain, Grinnah, Goblin King I'm want to improve. Do you apply this mixes in a line? I think that I don't apply them correct. Do you have some tips or other resources?

First things first - are you watering all your paints ? You need them to a milky semi transparent state. From there you progressively build the layers.
One thing you could do is mix hats slightly darker than the highlight, make it very thin 4 parts water to 1 part paint. Now paint the area between the two and after a few coats watch it start to merge better with the darker colour. Dont paint the lightest or darkest points, just the middle area in varying amounts of layers. By practising this you will be surprised how you can make the colours blend.
Most top painters do something like this and refer to it as fixing, simply giving more attention to a smoother blend.
The general principle on highlighting is to use the line method, as the coat lightens you paint slightly higher up to the highest point.
There are so many hints and tips its where to start.
For example with me - I prime white and then base coat with a light colour. From here I highlight up and once that is done I then start shading. The advantage of this is you get a brighter colour than if you started with a black prime.
If you look at my Cave Drake WIP you will get the idea how I went from very light base oats to the finished item.
You could start with a black prime but when you put a highlight glaze all over then the recesses tend to be lighter. Unless of course you don't put the lighter coat in the recess.
As for resources well the Internet is literally packed with them. Perhaps if you went on YouTube as that will give the video which can be an invaluable help.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Some really good work on here. You can see your journey in technique as you flick through the pages. I don't like the goblin, (not your painting of it just Peter Jacksons insistence on pink goblins). you've done a good job.

PINK GOBLINS .. pah ... It's not at all natural.

GOBLINS ARE GREEN !

While receiving tips and comments on my Goblins I finished Narzug this week. I'm happy with the result. I've given the skintone an extra highlight. I also didn't use a painting guide for the first time. Normally I search and/or create a painting guide before I start painting a miniature.

Thanks for the tips I received!

I finished the wooden walkway of 'The Goblin King's platform'. I had underestimated the details (bones and the other stuff).

Not all of them - there were some yellowish gobbos in Moria, and what with all the slime and filth (due to their habitual unsanitary practices), you could argue that goblins are generally the colour of the nearest dirt.
I like to see variations on a theme, but there should also be some unifying colour or motif. I like your Misty Mountain bunch. The pale ones remind me of the colour all goblins turn when they see The B A Z O O K A aimed in their direction :)
And the platform looks fantastic!

I really love your walkway - how did you manage to get such nice wooden tones there?

Very nicely done :)

Simply love the way you've done Narzug... awesome detail!
Your best model yet imo.

Thanks, I also personally find this my best paintjob. I'm learning a lot the couple weeks. So suggestions are always welcome.

Narzug looks awesome, as does your walkways. I'm currently working on several sets of these and the bone detail takes ages :)
