Thanks Hurin!
I'm thinking I might write a painting guide when I paint up my next batch, as it's proving a popular request.
Quote:
The scheme calls for very light drybrushing, building up in layers.
* First off, drybrush Chainmail Silver over the armour/shield/mail. Be careful to leave some black definition in the recesses.
* Secondly, drybrush Burnished Gold on top of that. Again, leave recesses.
* Now, mix together 1/2 Bestial Brown and 1/2 Catachan Green. Add water until it starts to thin out (but not too thin!). Wash the armour and shield - I find it's better to put a little too much on, then dry your brush off and spread it out, even painting it into the recesses.
* When the wash has dried, check it. If you think you did it too thin, do another wash.
* When it's dried, mix together 1/2 Chainmail and 1/2 Burnished Gold. Do a very light drybrush over, picking out the raised details and the edges of the armour.
For the Elven Cloak:
*Mix together 1/2 Catachan Green, 1/4 Stonewall Gray, 1/4 Black. Gradually highlight, begining the first highlight with more gray. For the subsequent highlights, add Chainmail Silver. The final highlight should only be very subtle.
UPDATE:
My Elf Command is done, and I've finalised a basing scheme for the rest of the army. I'm not entirely happy with the banner, but it was the best I could do - the photographs have actually highlighted a few problem areas where the lines need smoothed out a little. But still, it came out better than my blueprints!
