I like the colour scheme you've used for Shadowfax and the attention to detail on such things as his nostrils and mouth. The white highlights aren't quite as smooth but overall very nice work! :yay:

Yeah, I know the blending is a bit rough on Shadowfax. I'm not particularly good at blending white at all, and I definitely don't use enough layers for a really smooth end product.

I finished up the Fellowship today - even Bill the Pony! He was an afterthought when I ordered the heads for my Galahadrim - for 4 dollars I figured he was worth it.

Next up are the (formerly) headless Galahadrim - but it'll be a bit, as I'm in the middle of a 40k project as well.

Let me know what you think,

Great work. I love the painting of the fellowship. My suggestion would be to add some more contrast to the sand on the base and maybe add a few more details so that the quality of the base is more on par with the quality of the minis on it.

Alright, the heads Agan recommended came in, and they are a perfect fit. The helmets compliment the elf models nicely, and they'll add a bit of needed variety to the units. They took a bit of greenstuffing, as the neck/hair bit of the elf models had to be removed.

Here is the unit, ready for paint:

I'll post more WIP shots as they come!

Oh, and you're right Dwarf Lord, I do need to spruce up the Fellowship's base a bit - I just haven't thought of anything to do it with. Maybe I'll use some of the pieces of the Osgilath ruins.

Thanks,

Dan

Well, it took a few days longer than I'd hoped, but here are the head-swapped elves of Beleriand. In total, there were 19 of them, but with the strange way that GW packages their elves, it ended up being pieces of 3 separate companies.

I'm happy with the head swaps, and the green stuff came off smoothly enough I think. Looking at the factory models next to the head-swapped ones, I actually like the converted heads better. I may have to order more of the heads for the next group.

Next up will be a few odds and ends characters - Mr. Bombadill, Radaghast, Farmer Maggot, and Beleg Strongbow I think.

C&C are welcome as always.

This is one of my dirty little secrets, but I paint the armor in about the easiest way imaginable.

1. No basecoat, slop burnished gold on with the biggest brush you can find - it'll go all over the mini, but that's why you do it first.

2. After that dries, paint the skin bits w/ dwarf flesh.

3. Next, heavily wash it all w/ ogryn flesh.

4. Finally, highlight w/ 50/50 burnished gold/chainmail.

5. Now pick out the brown stuff, robe and cloak (this is the long step).

6. Finally, highlight the face w/ Dwarf flesh (or lighter if you want) and the cloak, pick out the eyes, and you're done!

Hope that helps, let me know if you need more details about anything.

The helmets fit very well, they're a lot better than the originals in my opinion. I like how you've painted them, simple but effective. I'm looking forwards to seeing what you do on those other minis. Keep up the good work.

I too like the new heads. You did a very good job of blending them in.
:yay: 8)

@farmer G of H, I think that that certain model comes with the arrow pre-sculpted.

And it's terribly fiddly I might add - that's my only complaint with the Galahadrim models. They are terribly easy to break.

Thanks for all the compliments, there's more to come.
