Looks good! I'm not sure I like the gold trim on the armor though. I like the face, the high elf faces are really tough to pain imo, especially the eyes, but you pulled it off nicely. :yay:

The gold trim was on a picture posted in another topic that I used as a reference. Not sure I'd replicate it across an entire army at least with the method I used which meant going over every edge three times.

Great job on the Elf, I hope I can get mine that close, though I'm going to go for more of a vermin brown on the leather

Update on my painting challenge entry:

This is coming along a lot quicker than I expected with all of the shading on the skin done.

One of the hobbit trolls not sure which one though.

A little progress on the highlights:

I'm really annoyed with myself that I didn't smooth out all of the arm joints properly. I don't have much experience putting together these large models and it would appear my failing eyesight is not to be trusted. Other than that I'm happy with how he is coming along.

As I mentioned in the monster challenge thread I'm going through the process of emigrating and for the next couple of months all I'll have for my hobby needs are a bunch of old minis I had given up on ever getting around to paint and some old, cheap paints.

Since I'm planning on building a hunter orc army I'm going to spend some time practicing painting non-human skin tones and grubby clothing.

This is attempt #1 done fast and dirty in thirty minutes.

It's not fair! Haha brilliant painting I'm just in awe and jealous of your troll. That orc skin tone is spot on also, perfect dirty fleshy tone.

Ha ha. Old figures, bad paints, 30 minutes. And it's still in the top % of painted figures I've seen. 8)

Thanks guys.

Here's my second attempt:

Image

I really like the blue/green but I'm not sure it's suitable for orcs. Looks too much like a military uniform so maybe I'll make a note to use this when I get around to expanding my fiefdoms army.

I changed things slightly with this guy. #1 was given an all over oil wash of brown/black whereas #2 had a wash of devlan mud. The oil wash takes longer to prepare and finish but the final result is better in my opinion. The metal especially has a much better definition.

For the cloth and skin if anyone is interested I used a mix of leather brown and white and added this to all of the base colours. This had the effect of making the colours less saturated as well as creating a sense of harmony.

I actually like the green on the orc, its different. The flesh is also an interesting color, it almost looks human, but I think it works.

Indeed, I think the green-blue works fine. (Though it does tend to bring to mind some wood elves I've seen in the same colour..)

The green-blue is fine, especially as historically this is one of the easiest and cheapest colours to make, and thus more probable for Orcs then regal purple or red.
