Is it just me or is the head sculpt on the Unreleased mini actually nicer than the official one??

no it's not just you... I actually found the Unreleased Mini version far better in every way to the official GW one

Neither look much like David Wenham (which I thought the old "Ranger" version did an admirable job of accomplishing) but the Captain of Ithilien looks almost like a squashed Peter Jackson... Not very nice!

You're doing a great job of it, I hope I didn't lead you to think otherwise! I was just shocked at how bad that head sculpt is from a different angle.

I love the base of the mounted version. The smashed stones are a nice touch. 8)

It's been a while since my last update but I'm pleased to say I've finished my 6 mounted Minas Tirith knights to accompany my Faramir.
I've tried to paint them to look like an elite guard for Faramir but still in keeping with the rest of my Dol Amroth army.
oh, and carrying on from the fun I had making the bombardment base for Faramir I thought I'd do the same again with the movement / display tray.

Hope you folks like :D

Very, very, very cool!
Really inspiring to see your work.
What kind of grass do you use there? The grass I'm using never looks so thick and doesn't stay up very well.

I agree with Lord Hurin regarding the similarity to David Wenham and that only the 'ranger' head is actually great. In fact, should I ever purchase the Unreleased mini as a foot version next to my mounted one, I'll chop off both heads and replace them.
As for the actual models and their painting/basing etc. I have already expressed my awe.

Thanks Sephalo :)

the grass is just cheap stuff off eBay... the trick is you need to apply it with static charge to make it all stand up properly.

Thanks guys... it was good fun making the tray for these guys.
Nice change to have a bit of action rather than just horses trotting along

Absolutely right - it's a bit of a pricey investment but I recommend highly the Grasmaster 2 by Noch - I just used one to flock a Bag End model and the result is so much better than just dropping flock in there.

Also, love your work! Great painting and the bases are fantastic. Really brings home the old adage to do justice to your miniatures - "faces and bases".

Superb knights. The blue and gold really 'pop' and the great tray ties them all together nicely.

Those look really nice! While I like the whole lot, my favorite part has to be the checkered pattern on the one horse, it looks very neat, which can be a difficult thing to do. Good job! :yay:

Wow, I've really been neglecting my painting thread on here... I'm really sorry everyone. I didn't realise it had been so long since I posted any update on my efforts.

I'm pleased to say I have more things to show you though :)
Thank you all for the wonderful comments about my knights, I really appreciate it.

I hope you like these too
