Suladan, finished. :-D I'm really happy with how he turned out. I didn't attempt eye's on him as they are very shadowed. (Not to mention that I didn't sculpt any eyes, just the crevices.)
If somone has a nice serpent/haradrim freehand image, I'd like to see it. I plan on doing something in either light purple or ice blue on the flat back of his banner holder. (I left it flat for that purpose, there's thinking ahead for yah! :E )

On to the pictures!

P.S. Kidterminal, have you found a pic of the chainmail fold situation?

Sorry no. The sculpting looks nice. You may want symbol on each flag. I'm not so hot on the brown color. I imagine him to be more colorful. :)

Well done. :D I'll say the hand on the blade is a tad big, but barely noticeable. I'd be happy to have it in my collection.

Nice job on Amdur! I really like the conversion, and the red is nicely done too. The gold looks a bit thick though, and the silver highlights look a bit overdone to me. What I like to do is mix a small amount of Mithril silver with Shining Gold and use that first, and then as a final highlight use pure Mithril Silver on the very edges/highest points of the armor. It's important you keep the paint thin to. Also, another thing I like to do with gold is when it's done is to give it a light wash/glaze of Thrakka Green. This adds color to it, and I think it looks better. I also think it could use a little more depth, Devlan Mud works really well for this, especially with gold.
Hope all that was somewhat helpful, it's more time consuming, but the result is worth it IMO.
I look forward to seeing more from you 8)

Thanks guys. Pow, thanks for the detailed reply! He's 'good enough' for me right now, but I will probably come back to him at some point and take your advice. I just have so many figures to do that if it'll look good on the table, and I'm happy with it, it probbly won't get improved until I'm bored and looking for a quick side project.

Anyways, something new. I've seen some crazy awesome galadriel's before with multiple colours blended into each other, and figured I'd try. So far the blue and purple are blended nicely, but the blue and geen needs some work. I also need to do highlights and such yet. I plan on doing the skin normally, unless someone else has a good idea? Any advice on this would be much appreciated, as this is my first attempt at this sort of thing. :)

(The colours are naggaroth night, mordian blue, and catachan green btw, the pictures are a bit dark.)

If you want to give her a glowing look, I'd try to "reverse highlight" her. Means, highlights should be darker then the base tones. Within the folds I'd go for really light tones maybe.

Anyway, nice idea and looking good so far!

No problem, glad I could help :)
I'm afraid I can't help much with Galadriel though, I've never tried anything like this either. I like the idea and the colors, and I think Rognarr's idea might be worth a shot. Just have fun with it :)

Are you wet blending or using washes to mix the colors?

Both. First I did some pre-highlighting and shading, (which I went too heavy over) and then I did the colouring all with washes. I did them at the same time though, and wet blended them together.

It's best to start with the light colors first because its easy to ad dark with washes. So I'd start with all the light colors and then darken.

For a "glow" effect, dark washes aren't of much use though.. ^^
If you want that, that is.

No more progress on Galadriel, but I'm nearing completion on Dalamyr. I went for a very close representation of him. I find it's way easier for me to sculpt stuff if I'm basically copying. Once I'm better I hope I can start making up my own poses though. I haven't decided if I'll have his hood up, or not. It'll mostly depend on how good of a head/face I can sculpt, I think. :o

Suladan mounted is progressing. It's interesting to try to sculpt something a second time. (especially stuff that I made up) I'm trying to keep it looking the same as the original, but it's hard as sometimes I can do things better the second time around!

I'm also slowly working Dalamyr's head. I need to do the eye's yet, as well as the mouth/chin/lower nose area.

I'd love feedback on the head especially.

Dalymir is looking excellent so far :yay: I especially like the sword.

Mounted Suladan is looking good too, you seem to be mimicking the sculpting style from the original very well

That was too long. I have finally got back to hobby work. I did a little more on Suladan's head, mostly making his nose bigger, which made it look a lot better imo. I'd love to finish him off and get him painted, but I'm super busy this summer and may not have time to. Anyways, here's the Galadriel that I've painted for the elf painting challenge. (Again, more and better (brighter) pictures coming....)

I've found out that I much prefer to do high quality paint jobs that take a long time with lots of blending than quick table top jobs. This is not good news for my large back-log of normal Joe's.

I was watching a free dvd I got from miniwargaming on painting red the other day, and he mentioned adding green to red to shade it, as they are opposite on the colour wheel and thus complement eash other. (iirc) I really wanted to try hard to make Galadriel one of my best, so I went for a more photo/competition friendly high contrast style of painting. I actually managed to blend it well, so it looks good to me. I had lots of fun doing the red. I started with dark flesh, then added catachan green in for the shadows. Next I added bleached bone to the Dark Flesh for the highlights. Plopping the dark flesh and Bleached bone on my wet pallette, and then highlighting up the cloak higher and higher and smoother and smoother was my favorite painting I've done in a while. I'd love to try wet blending and such at some point; maybe when I have more free time, and some spare cash to grab some medium.

I also made the skin have a lot more contrast than normal, but again the blending is smooth enough that it looks good to me. (Though I know it could be much better). I re-did the eyes many times before I was happy with them. I tried really hard to shape them a bit and not just have a sideways white line intersected by a vertical black line....

C&C Very much appreciated :)
