Those Rohirrim Militia look great aelfwine!

Also looking forward to seeing your models cameda! I'm glad there are several members of our Fellowship still trudging through the solemn task of painting these monster armies :)

Myself, while work's been utter hell the last two weeks, I've managed to finish one of my three Orc Warband companies:

Enjoy!

And my April addition to the Tale of Nine Gamers army!

(I made 4 companies of Rohirrim, all converted Mithril figures)

This completes my first formation of 6 companies of Riders of Rohan:

Bah! I didn't get even close to finishing my guys...I've been too wearied from work and other Devlan Mud to feel like picking up the paintbrush...

I'm going to try to finish the Orcs by the end of May, as well as a pack of Wargs...those paint up really easily, so will be simple to finish by June :/

I sympathise.

I knew time was running out and since I'm poor right now, there was no real distraction. Just painted a lot.

I think I'll be taking a break after May. I will be travelling a lot through the summer, effectively homeless till I move to Vancouver. Subletting a place in June, going home to Ireland in July/August, moving across country to Vancouver in August. I might get some painting time in in June, but there's absolutely no guarantee.

Having been working (vaguely) to a deadline since January, I am painfully aware of how slowly I paint. I've come up with some annoying problems, painting figures assembled and undercoated up to five years ago. My weird basing arrangement tends to add a lot of time to the process. I think I'll have to soon abandon my Woodland scenics "ballast" as a basing material and scuttle back to Games Workshop's modelling sand. Just easier all around.

Later or tomorrow I'll try and tot up how many points I've gotten so far.

My original display board was thrown out; this backup one is going to be discarded by the end of May. The Realm of Battle board is back in its bag until I move to Vancouver, methinks.

It's been an interesting experiment, challenging the rather odd and random way I've painted.

And, as usual, it revealed the one universal truth of LOTR miniature collecting: one always needs more Orcs.

I love your Riders of Rohan - the scheme is simple, but well executed. The shields in particular look very cleanly done.

Thank you.

Took me ages to figure it out. Mithril Rohan and Gondor shields are round shields with a slightly raised smooth outer band. Looks great - if you can paint them properly. Painting them properly needs a really steady hand and a really smooth paint job. It becomes a problem.

Instead I basecoated the shields black, drybrushed on (heavily) Tin Bitz and then Boltgun metal and then Chainmail, which means you have a reasonably smooth metallic rim. Then carefully fill in the central part of the shield with Dark Angels Green. Finally pick out the hose with astronomicon grey or a mix of light grey and white.

Saved a lot of grief.

My apologies for not getting progress pics up guys. I have been bogged down with other things and can't seem to find time for painting.

I will do my best to get some pics up soon.

The current lot are all Mithril miniatures, the other official Lord of the Rings miniature collection:

www.mithril.ie

Specifically they are from the original Helm's Deep and Gamling's Rally series of miniatures. The riders are conversions of the Mithril Classic Eomer and Theoden figures, as well as some older, harder to find Rider models. The Orcs are Mithril Orcs of various types. Many were cast by Time Machine miniatures, but they stopped making the Warband sets last autumn, much to my endless sadness. (Because I was about to go buy 200 bucks worth of Orc and Gondorian figures!)

They are fun figures, but the blighters are expensive (all metal). You can, however, do pretty well on Ebay picking up figures.

Gavin
