Looking good! You've put some blue tones in the black, which makes it look cold and ominous. Nice job. I might be tempted to go in with a little watered down black ink in the armour though. It might be the photo, but it looks like it could use a little more contrast.

Actually, I take it back. Looking at the top picture, I think it's just the glare in the bottom photo that threw me.

Aye - it's a hard one to photo because of the contrast I think. Metals look a lot more 'gritty' in real life.

Adding the blue the the cloth really does do the trick and gives the black a bit of life rather than looking flat.

Usually paint hair and faces first, but didn't this time for some reason!

That and a few more highlights to do on this one yet.

It's from "The Fall of the Witch-King" boxed set. Merry sculpt is slightly different to usual shielded one too.

Very neat so far. This is a good sculpt of Eowyn. I was wondering do they still include the severed head of the fellbeast in the Fall of the Witchking box set? I have been checking the GW site and cannot find it there. And GW's search facility brings up barrow-wights when I search for Fall of the Witchking ...

Looking good, I always paint the face first, I just find the figure sort of falls into place once the face is done.

Not in the box I picked up, but I do remember seeing that mini somewhere - was it a diarama or something?

@Harfoot I'm going back to painting faces first for sure, feels a bit intimidating now!

Not painted for an entire week, as I've been moving house. Got a nice new 'studio' to paint in now though :D

Made some progress on Eowyn - still need to detail the face, but almost done.

Done with Eowyn - feel the eyes have let it down a bit :(

Going to try and get a smaller brush and practice some more eyes.

Quite nice, but you're right, the eyes aren't up to scratch. I personally stay away from eyes as they look awful unless they're done really really well. Unless the model really demands it, Gollum, certain orcs etc. I just leave the recesses dark. Reikland Fleshshade or some other glaze can help.

If you are really set on doing eyes this may help. Keep up the good work, the rest of the model is top notch.

Cheers, nice article that! I might 'scratch her eyes out' and shade - I use Reikland before the highlights anyhow. Generally take the approach you've described for Gandalf (I've painted a few of those!) I've also just ordered an 'Insane Detail' Army Painter brush too, so will see what I can achieve with that.

Thamks for that- somehow I missed your post though! Doh! Kind of you to mention it though. Finished product looks great! I also find a very watered down grey or dark flesh wash over the eyes tie them in to the face a bit, and tone them down.
